Thank you for your interest in serving on the AFRP Board of Directors. AFRP was founded and built upon our devotion to the animals in need within our community and surrounding communities and is the oldest foster-based rescue organization in Monterey County. We are a no-kill, volunteer-powered 501(c)3 nonprofit animal welfare organization whose primary mission is "Saving at-risk abandoned, stray, and abused companion animals." To accomplish this mission to help as many animals in the community and surrounding communities as possible, AFRP employs the following programs:

  • Rescue and adoptions
  • Lifetime commitment to all of our animals
  • Community cat spay+neuter services
  • Major medical cases
  • Ongoing efforts to find new ways to advocate for the underserved animals & their humans in our community

The AFRP Board of Directors is responsible for governing AFRP and focusing on the mission, legacy, strategy, and goals of the organization.  This includes oversight in four main areas: legal, financial, management, and program.

Becoming a board member is a considerable commitment as we meet and exceed best practices for the nonprofit community. The process of becoming a board member includes the following:

  1. Complete this application and supply the requested information
  2. Meet with member(s) from the AFRP Board of Directors
  3. If approved, your application will be submitted to the Board for vote
  4. If approved, you will meet with one or more members for orientation
  5. Attend AFRP Board meetings as a voting member

AFRP does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations. These activities include, but are not limited to, employment of staff, selection of volunteers and vendors, and provision of services. We are committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of our staff, volunteers, subcontractors, vendors, and clients.

AFRP is currently seeking nominees to join the board and wishes to contribute to the organization's commitment to finding good permanent homes for abandoned, stray, and abused companion animals, ending the pet overpopulation crisis through focused spay/neuter programs, and community engagement.
