COVID 19 Update

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to impact all of our lives, AFRP is continuing to provide lifesaving care for the cats and dogs in our community. Since the shutdown in mid-March, AFRP has continued to change and adapt to do our work while complying with local health guidelines. Be assured that the animals in our care are receiving top-notch care during this particularly challenging time. Here’s an update about the measures we have taken to protect the health and welfare of our adopters, volunteers, staff and supporters, while still providing care for animals in need.

Cat and Dog Adoptions

Our AFRP Adoption Center in Pacific Grove is temporarily closed to the public, but our satellite cat adoption centers at Pet Food Express in Carmel, and Petco in Monterey are once again housing adoptable cats and kittens. Meet and greets for dogs and cats are scheduled by appointment once an online application is approved. Masks and social distancing measures are required. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out our online application and a representative will be in touch with more information.

Volunteering

Our volunteers are the heart of our organization, and we miss seeing our wonderful dog walkers, transporters, litter box scoopers, cat socializers, and office helpers. We look forward to the time when we can be together again! Our greatest need is for foster homes for cats, kittens, dogs and puppies, and for Treasure Shop volunteers. Orientations and training for new volunteers is safely conducted remotely. Fill out an online volunteer application to join our team!

Animal Intake

We continue to support our local municipal shelters by taking in sick, injured, neglected, underaged or overlooked dogs and cats. We accept animals from the public on a space-available basis, and we continue to help pet guardians re-home their animals by offering free courtesy posts on our website.

AFRP Treasure Shop

Our benefit shop at 221 Grand Ave in Pacific Grove is now open Mon, Wed, Thur, Fri & Sat 10am-4:30pm. Donations of gently used items can be arranged by appointment. Call the AFRP Treasure Shop at 831-333-0491 for more information.

Low Cost Spay/Neuter Assistance

The need for low cost spay/neuter assistance is greater than ever, and we continue to work with participating local veterinarians to offer vouchers for $80 cat spays, $40 cat neuters and $25 small dog spays/neuters. To see if you qualify for a low cost spay/neuter voucher, please visit our web page.

AFRP Office

Our staff members are busier than ever, and are mostly working from home. We are doing our best to answer questions, process donations, and respond to your emails and phone messages in a timely manner. We appreciate your patience as we navigate new ways of operating our organization.

Donations

As we face difficult times, each small act of kindness adds up to a hopeful future for an animal in need. We are incredibly grateful for the role you play in our lifesaving work. Please make a gift today and help us continue to support animals during this time of crisis. Thank you!
