AFRP Dogs Looking for Homes - Call (831) 333-0722 if you are interested

AFRP's dogs are cared for in foster homes. If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, please call or email first before coming down to the adoption center. On any given day we have 5 to 10 dogs at the center, not ALL of our dogs are on site.

In order to ensure that we make the best match for a dog with a new family, potential adopters are required to go through an interview process, fill out an application, and have a home check done by one of our volunteers. We do not do same day adoptions. After meeting one of our dogs, it might take up to a week before the adoption process is complete and the dog goes home with you.

Please call (831) 333-0722 or email info@animalfriendsrescue.org if you are interested in adopting an AFRP dog and we will have the foster volunteer contact you directly.

AFRP only adopts out dogs that have been spayed/neutered. The adoption fee is $200-$300. The adoption fee helps to cover the cost of the care the animal has received, including spay/neuter, vaccines, microchipping, deworming, and flea treatment. Adopters are encouraged to take their new AFRP dog to one of our participating vets for a free wellness check (see list of participating vets).

With big brown eyes and a super-sweet temperament, Rusty is a spry older gentleman that acts much younger than his 13 years! Take him out for a walk, and he marches briskly down the sidewalk, enjoying the sights, sounds and smells along the way. This 9-pound love bug is house trained, gets along nicely with other dogs and cats, and is well behaved in the house. His foster mom says he is a very easy dog to care for and a very easy dog to love! Rusty was adopted from AFRP as a puppy and recently returned to our care when his elderly guardian could no longer care for him. He's ready for a warm lap and a second chance! He's an adorable and affectionate 2-year-old, 12-pound Chihuahua mix with a brown and silver coat that will remind you of a harbor seal! He came to AFRP from the Salinas Animal Shelter as an injured stray that had been hit by a car. Poor little Greyson had a broken pelvis and was in so much pain, he had trouble walking. Happily, his pelvis has healed after many weeks of cage rest. He is walking well and he's gradually building up his strength and stamina. He's looking for an adult adopter or a family with gentle teens. Click here for and online application.

Anya
sponsor me

Anya is a 4-pound bundle of energy and love - she is everything that Chihuahua lovers love about Chihuahuas! Anya has made a remarkable recovery after coming to AFRP from the Salinas Shelter as an injured stray. She was suffering from a broken leg and a diaphragmatic hernia, which required surgical repair. Now fully healed, Anya loves to run and play with other little dogs, play with toys, play tug, and chew on fingers. We estimate her age to be about nine months and she is now enjoying her puppyhood greatly! Anya needs a home without small children or large dogs but she would love an active small canine playmate. She takes a bit of time to trust new people and dogs, but once she does, she loves with all of her Chihuahua heart! Click here for an online application.

Roux is a 4-month-old Catahoula Leopard Dog mix with a red merle coat and enchanting golden eyes. She came to AFRP from a local vet clinic after arriving as a very sick girl that tested positive for canine parvovirus. Puppy obedience class registration is required for adoption. Click here for an online application.

A champion snuggler, Gilbert will take every opportunity to climb onto your lap or into your arms. As far as training - he's a blank slate that needs to learn everything from leash-walking to basic obedience skills. Gilbert likes doggie treats and he's eager to learn new things. He gets along great with other dogs. For more about meeting or adopting Gilbert, fill out an online application.
Pudgie
sponsor me

Say cheese! Pudgie is a 1-1/2 year-old, 10-pound Chihuahua with a smile that lights up the room! He came to AFRP after being hit by a car in Salinas, and he has fully recovered from a broken pelvis. Pudgy is a smart little guy who knows how to sit and lay down. He loves to play with his favorite ball and is very reliable in returning it. Pudgy needs a special home with an experienced dog person who can continue working with him on his manners and proper socialization: he can be bossy and has problems meeting strangers. Because of that he might do better as an only dog so that the focus would be on him. He does get along with his foster brother and sister. No cats, no kids. He's a cute little guy who deserves a fair chance! For more about meeting or adopting Pudgie, please fill out an online application. His adoption fee is waived to a qualified adopter.

Cali
Posted 3-5-19. Cali is a sweet and playful 4-month-old German Shepherd mix puppy that was originally adopted from the Monterey SPCA. Her adopter had to move and Cali is being fostered by a friend. Unfortunately Cali's puppy energy is too much for the senior dogs in the home, and she is a better match for a household with no dogs or younger, playful dogs. She is a happy and healthy pup and is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. She is smart, learns quickly and is doing great with her potty training. She's looking for an adopter with time to continue her training and give her plenty of love and attention. Cali is not an AFRP dog. Charlotte
Updated 3-5-19. This 10 pound, 2 year old terrier needs a special home. She was trapped as a feral 10 months ago and is now an independent girl who need lots of room to run and explore. She comes indoors when called but still cannot be touched and does not like to be leashed. She is good with other dogs, is not aggressive but is fearful of humans and noise. She would be best on a large property were she can live independently but come indoors at night and in bad weather. She has all her shots, is spayed, and is currently in a foster home with South County Animal Rescue (SCAR). Text Lou at (831) 970-8878.

Achilles
Post renewed 11-5-18. Achilles is an 9 year old, 70lb cattle dog mix. He has a gentle, kind, shy soul but has unfortunately been through many homes recently through no fault of his own. Because of this and his breed mix, Achilles will always be slow to warm up to new people but is interested and does bond with you after just a few days. He will reward you with a little happy dance and some "stump-waggin'" whenever he sees you! All this guy really needs is a comfy corner spot in a stable quiet home environment again! Achilles is fully housebroken, crate-trained, treat motivated, good on leash, tolerant of other dogs, and a quiet companion. He just wants to be near his people again so would be happiest in a home with a full-time adult caretaker. As a shy dog, Achilles is not suitable for a noisy, busy environment and is afraid of most children. He's looking for a retired couple to follow around again for exercise and some comfy dog beds for rest. Achilles is not an AFRP dog. Please contact Diana at (510) 333-4420 or theperfectdogrescue@gmail.com
