Mr. Strudel is looking his best after being bathed and groomed! This 1-year-old, 14-pound poodle/terrier mix came to AFRP from the Monterey County Animal Services after coming in as a filthy, matted and neglected dog that was on hold for a cruelty investigation. Despite a rough start in life, Mr. Strudel seems to hold no grudges, and he enjoys meeting new people and soaking up your love and attention. In his past life he had to stand up for himself, and he has an alpha personality around other dogs. This means he needs to be a single dog in the home. He seems interested in chasing cats and will be best in a feline-free home.
Mr. Strudel is doing well with his house training. He sleeps in his crate at night and he is very tolerant when it’s time for bathing and brushing. This guy will do best in an experienced adult household (no kids) that will set boundaries and not allow free rein of household in the beginning. He’s looking for someone with the time to continue his training and can provide regular professional grooming to keep his coat in shape. He’s a very high-energy, playful dog that needs daily exercise. Like many rescue dogs, Mr. Strudel comes with some baggage from his previous life and he’s looking for an experienced adopter that can continue to work with him. He is not a dog for a first-timer. Please note: Due to COVID-19, preference is given to adopters in Monterey County or Santa Cruz County.
