Hi, I'm Gidget. I was adopted on October 16!
Chihuahua Mix
Tan and White
Adult, Female
Gidget is a teeny-tiny 2-year-old Chihuahua with a big personality! Weighing a petite 3 pounds, she does not let her small stature prevent her from letting everyone in the household know who’s the boss! Gidget came to AFRP from the Salinas Shelter after coming in as a pregnant stray needing an emergency c-section. Sadly, her puppy did not survive, but Gidget is doing well in foster care and she’s busy learning what it’s like to enjoy the finer things in life: soft beds, warm laps, yummy treats and lots of love!
Like many extra-small dogs, Gidget has a tiny bladder capacity and she’ll need an adopter that can take her outside on an every two-hour schedule. Her current foster mom often has her wear a little doggy diaper in the house. Gidget has lots of playful energy and she enjoys playing with toys and socializing with other dogs, though she can be a bit dominant with them at times. She loves snuggling on laps and she forms very close bonds with her caregivers.
Gidget is looking for for an adopter familiar with the needs of tiny dogs. Dogs like Gidget are very fragile, and are not a good match for a household with children or large dogs. Dogs this size can easily break a bone from a fall or even from jumping down from a high sofa, so ramps and stairs are good additions to the household. Gidget is currently in foster care. Please note: Due to COVID-19, preference is giving to residents of Monterey County and Santa Cruz County.
