Hi, I'm Dougie. Adopt Me!

Small Mixed Breed

White

Young, Male

Special boy! Dougie is a 2-year-old, 11-pound sweetheart. Despite being born with some congenital deformities of his spine and sternum, Dougie has a zest for life and the desire to explore every little part of what the world has to offer. He adores playing with other small dogs and will follow wherever they lead. He would love to have a small dog pal in his new home and a safe backyard for sniffing and exploring. Dougie has a puppy-like personality and even likes chewing on slippers and tugging on socks. Dougie is currently in foster care after coming to AFRP from the Hollister Shelter. He is doing well with his house training and he loves attention.  His posture and his movement are hampered by his structural problems, and he tires more quickly and can’t go on long walks or hikes (unless you carry him), but he really wants to be involved in your daily life. He takes carprofen (an NSAID) every day and will need to continue this for the rest of his life. His adopter will need to work closely with a vet to make sure Dougie is comfortable. He’s looking for a compassionate adopter with no small children, no stairs and no large dogs – all for safety reasons. His adopter needs to be agile and steady on their feet, as Dougie’s movements are unpredictable.  If you are ready to open your heart and home to a very special dog, please fill out an online adoption application.

Please note: Due to COVID-19, preference is given to residents of Monterey County and Santa Cruz County.
