With a face that will melt your heart, Carly is an 8-month-old, 11-pound small mixed breed that is looking for a special adopter that has experience working with fearful dogs. Currently in foster care after coming to AFRP from the Monterey SPCA, Carly is making progress as she learns to trust her foster family. She is doing well with her potty training, and she gets along nicely with other dogs and cats. She is also learning her basic obedience commands and she responds to high-value treats, lots of praise, gentle touch and quiet voices. Still wary of new people, Carly will avoid stressful situations and remove herself to a safe space. She has the potential to be a sweet and loving dog, and she will blossom with an  adopter with lots of patience, consistency and experience with fearful dogs. She is currently working with a trainer/behaviorist and has started medication to treat her generalized anxiety. Here are Carly’s adoption requirements:

1. Experience with shy/fearful dogs and willingness to learn about resource guarding
2. No children under age 16
3. Pre-registration for dog training required prior to adoption
