Hi, I'm Axel. I was adopted on June 9!

German Shepherd Mix

Black and Tan

Adult, Male

Just as good-natured as he is handsome, Axel is a 3-year-old, 72-pound Shepherd mix that wins the hearts of everyone he meets. Currently in foster care after coming to AFRP from the Hitchcock Road Animal Services, Axel is a well mannered dog that is house trained, knows the commands sit and stay, and he waits patiently while you put on his leash and harness before heading out for a walk. He loves to sniff and explore when he’s on leash, and he’s completely non-reactive to other dogs he meets, even if they are barking at him. (He needs a home with no cats.) He’s a great match for a household with another friendly, playful and socialized dog. Axel absolutely loves playing with toys, and he will flip them into the air to play fetch with himself if you are busy! Axel is a polite passenger in the car, and he has great house manners. He loves to be close to his person, and he will place his front paws on your lap during petting and cuddling time. He’s a smart dog that is very interested in everything going on around him, and when meeting new people he will wag his tail and jump in the air, but he’ll sit nicely to get petted. Due to his size and energy level, an adult adopter or family with kids over age 12 would be best. Experience with this breed or working breeds is preferred. Pre-registration for training classes is a requirement for adoption. Meet and greets can be arranged once your online application has been received and approved.
