Rebecca Zavada

Rebecca Zavada has dedicated her life to helping as many animals as possible. As busy as she is, she always finds the time to help an animal in need. Rebecca first became involved with AFRP in 1999, when she called AFRP cofounder Kelly Lehrian for some advice about an abandoned dog. Rebecca ended up spending three weeks earning the trust of the frightened dog that had been abandoned in an agricultural field in Salinas. Thanks to Rebecca’s efforts, the dog eventually found a good home, and AFRP gained a very valuable volunteer!

Over the past five years, Rebecca has fostered countless cats and kittens, dogs and puppies that have gone on to find homes. She often nurses sick cats and kittens back to health at her home until they are ready to go to adoption centers. In addition to the hands-on work with the animals, Rebecca helps with transportation, recruits new volunteers, and helps with pet adoptions either at the adoption sites or on her own through word of mouth. She makes countless phone calls, including important follow-up calls to the families who have adopted AFRP animals.
"I think the greatest reward is the call backs, and learning how all the kitties I have worked so hard with are now in a new home and both parties are happy."
