Volunteer Spotlight

Judy Thompson and Casper, who was adopted shortly after this photo was taken.

Shortly after this photo was taken, AFRP volunteer adoption counselor Judy Thompson helped a wonderful family fill out the adoption paperwork for Casper the white kitten and his brother, and sent them off to start their new life. A lifelong animal lover, Judy has been a familiar face at off site adoption days for the past three years, deftly going about the delicate business of matching pets with prospective adopters. With a friendly smile and a wealth of knowledge, Judy is a valuable link between AFRP and the community.

"The adoptions are exciting," says Judy, "but equally important is taking the opportunity to educate people and to make sure they leave feeling their questions have been answered and they have a better idea of what it means to bring a rescue animal into their home."

A true volunteer leader, Judy lends her volunteer time and talent wherever it is needed most. When the Crossroads Shopping Village recently donated a storefront to AFRP for holiday season adoptions,  Judy stepped up her commitment and not only volunteered two days per week doing adoptions, feeding cats and cleaning cages; she also checked in daily to make sure supplies were stocked, cages were filled, and all the resident kitties were happy and healthy.

"Just knowing you've made a difference in the life of a cat or a dog is the most rewarding aspect of volunteering for AFRP," says Judy.

AFRP relies on dedicated volunteers like Judy Thompson to help save the lives of over 1,600 homeless dogs and cats each year. Please give us a call if you would like to become a volunteer: 831-333-0722.
