Looking For a Home

Tulip's story began at AFRP when she was found at three months of age, paralyzed in her rear legs. She was taken from the shelter to a veterinarian who determined that there were no broken bones and hoped that with some medication to take down swelling and crate rest, she would recover.

And recover she did! She steadily gained back use of her legs and got better and better at walking and even running again. She was soon able to play with the dogs in her foster home and this proved to be excellent therapy for her, along with swim therapy.

Now, at six months of age, Tulip's back legs are still a bit wobbly but she wants to play! A typical puppy in most all ways, she plays until she has to take a nap and then wakes up to play some more. She is very dog-social and will be happiest in a home with another playful small dog that can be her friend and constant companion.

Tulip does have some difficulty in climbing flights of stairs and so would prefer a one-story home. She will also not be a dog for someone who goes on "power walks" as she is unable to walk long distances at high speed; however, she loves little strolls and she adores riding in the car. A careful adult home with time and love to spare is the best match for her. Being a poodle-mix, she will also need to have her coat groomed regularly throughout her lifetime. Basic obedience training classes will be required for Tulip and her adoptive family.

Tulip may have some lingering effects from her rough patch in life but she is ready to move on and begin a long, happy lifetime with the right family for her. If you are interested in meeting Tulip, please call 831-333-0722 or fill out an online adoption application.

Every Life Counts

Tulip is just one of thousands of animals AFRP have rescued since 1998.

AFRP has a lifetime commitment to every animal that comes into our care. We do not put animals down because they have been with us too long or have special medical needs. Tulip is anxious to find a permanent home because although she is off the streets and safe--she'll quickly tell you that being an orphan is not fun. She wants to find a special family to call her own.

AFRP depends on volunteers and donations from the general public to rescue approximately 1,900 dogs and cats each year. Won't you help us save more dogs like Tulip?
