Looking For a Home

Everything about Princess is big: her personality, her fluffy coat, and especially her paws! Princess is polydactyl, which means she has extra toes on her front paws. A small percentage of cats carry the gene that gives them extra toes. Ernest Hemingway had a polydactyl cat named Snowball, and Snowball's 50 polydactyl desendants still live at the Hemingway House and Museum in Key West, Florida! This is why polydactyl cats are also sometimes referred to as Hemingway cats.

Princess is one of the cats that has been with AFRP the longest. She came to use from the Salinas Animal Services in the summer of 2007 as a stray mama cat with a litter of five kittens (four of them were polydactyl like their mother). Princess raised her kittens in a foster home, and soon all were adopted. But not poor Princess! She has waited over a year for a home of her own.

Why hasn't Princess been adopted? Perhaps it's because she doesn't really like other cats. When people would come meet her at the adoption center, she didn't always show her best behavior -- the other cats all around her made her nervous. Now Princess is living in the AFRP office, where she can be a single cat. She purrs, hopes on laps, snuggles on shoulders, and is an all around perfect angel! Princess would be a wonderful match for an adopter looking for a playful, affectionate single cat companion.

Visit Princess at the AFRP Adoption Center, 560 Lighthouse Ave in Pacific Grove. Just ask to meet Princess the office cat. She'll be happy to show you her big, furry paws!

Every Life Counts

AFRP has a lifetime commitment to every animal that comes into our care. We do not put animals down because they have been with us too long or have special medical needs. Princess is anxious to find a permanent home because although she's off the streets and safe--she'll quickly tell you that being an orphan is not fun.She wants to find a special family to call her own.

AFRP depends on volunteers and donations from the general public to rescue approximately 1,900 dogs and cats each year. Won't you help us save more animals like Princess?
