Looking For a Home

When Murphy came to us from the shelter, he was timid and scared. What happened in his past to make him so fearful and afraid to trust? We’ll never know for sure. But Murphy was one lucky little Chihuahua. He got a wonderful foster home, and over the past year he’s made a remarkable transformation. From a nervous, aloof, unaffectionate and apprehensive little dog who never let his guard down, Murphy has evolved into a happy, relaxed playful little guy who loves life and enjoys being a dog.

Murphy’s about four years old and weighs 12 pounds. He’s mainly a Chihuahua, with perhaps some Japanese Shiba Inu in the mix. He’s been very busy learning good manners while in foster care, and is house trained, walks nicely on the leash, and behaves like a gentleman when sitting on your lap or riding with you in the car. You’ll know when he’s really relaxed--his little pink tongue peeks out of his mouth making him look just like a little teddy bear!

What makes Murphy happiest? He LOVES to play, but not with toys. Murphy loves to play with other dogs. Whether it’s a game of chase and tag, or a game of King of the Mountain (the top of the stairs being the mountain), Murphy is at his absolute happiest when frolicking with other canines. For this reason we would really like to match him up with a family with at least one other young playful dog.

Murphy would be a wonderful dog for an adult household or family with older kids (12+). He does not require a lot of exercise; a daily walk and playtime with another dog are all he requires. Murphy enjoys outings, but does get a bit nervous in extra noisy or crowded activities. A fairly calm and quiet home would be best for him.

Every Life Counts

Murphy is just one of thousands of animals AFRP have rescued since 1998.

AFRP has a lifetime commitment to every animal that comes into our care. We do not put animals down because they have been with us too long or have special medical needs. Murphy is anxious to find a permanent home because although he is off the streets and safe--he'll quickly tell you that being an orphan is not fun. He wants to find a special family to call his own.

AFRP depends on volunteers and donations from the general public to rescue approximately 1,900 dogs and cats each year. Won't you help us save more cats like Murphy?
