Looking For a Home

Kahlua is a friendly blue-eyed seven-year-old Siamese mix with the heart of a survivor - life has not always been easy for this sweet girl. Kahlua not only recovered from a badly broken leg after being hit by a car when she was a tiny kitten; she also beat the odds by recovering from a life-threatening blood clot that paralyzed her hind legs two years ago.

A “saddle thrombus” is a blood clot that lodges in the artery that supplies blood flow to the cat’s hind legs, causing extreme pain and paralysis of the hind limbs. Most cats with this condition have to be put down. Kahlua was only five years old when this suddenly happened to her. Luckily, her owner rushed her to the vet and she received immediate treatment to dissolve the clot. Kahlua beat the odds and gradually regained the use of her hind legs, and today you’d never know she ever had a problem.

Just like many human heart patients, Kahlua has a prescription for Plavix, which is an anticoagulant drug to prevent another clot from forming. It is very important that Kahlua takes this once-daily pill for the rest of her life. This medication costs about $30 per month - a small price to pay for the peace of mind it provides.

Kahlua has faced the challenges in her life with courage and grace, and we know there’s a special person out there willing to open their home and heart to this very brave cat who deserves to live out her life surrounded by love. Meet Kahlua at the AFRP Adoption Center, 560 Lighthouse Ave in Pacific Grove, or give us a call at 831-333-0722.

Every Life Counts

Kahlua is just one of thousands of animals AFRP have rescued since 1998.

AFRP has a lifetime commitment to every animal that comes into our care. We do not put animals down because they have been with us too long or have special medical needs. Kahlua is anxious to find a permanent home because although she is off the streets and safe--she'll quickly tell you that being an orphan is not fun. She wants to find a special family to call her own.

AFRP depends on volunteers and donations from the general public to rescue approximately 1,900 dogs and cats each year. Won't you help us save more cats like Kahlua?
