Looking For a Home

Just as loyal and tenderhearted as Marshall Dillon's sidekick on Gunsmoke, Chester is a 10-12 month old shepherd mix with a heart of gold. Chester came to us from the Hollister Animal Shelter after coming in as a stray with a broken hind leg after being hit by a car. AFRP provided the vet care Chester needed, and after patiently wearing a cast for many weeks, Chester has healed, though may always have a slight hitch in the hind leg that was damaged.

Chester had some bad luck but is eager for a fresh start. He is an intelligent, enthusiastic pup who wants to make up for lost time. Go for a walk? Ride in the car? Play fetch in the yard? Chester just wiggles with delight at the thought of spending time with his person. He's an energetic dog who will easily keep up with the most active adopter.

Though he has not yet attended formal obedience classes, Chester picked up his basic commands while in foster care. What a smart dog! He still needs to work on a few things, and pulls a bit on the leash, but is eager to learn and loves to please his person. He is house trained and crate trained. He loves his chew toys!

Chester is the friendliest dog you could ever want to meet - he's definitely not the shy type! He cheerfully greets all the people that stop by the AFRP Adoption Center, hoping for a friendly pat, a belly rub or a doggie treat. Chester not only loves people, he plays nicely with other dogs, and would be a great buddy to take to the beach or the dog park. He does chase cats though, so he's looking for a feline-free home. Since Chester can get a little rambunctious, he would do best in a home without small children that he could accidentally knock over.

Chester would love a chance to show you what a wonderful companion he can be. He is currently in boarding, and spends afternoons at the AFRP Adoption Center, 560 Lighthouse Ave in Pacific Grove from 12:00 - 3:30 Tuesdays through Saturdays. He'd love to meet you!

If you can't adopt, but would like to become a temporary foster home for Chester while he's waiting for his forever home, please give us a call at 831-333-0722. If you are interested in adopting Chester, please fill out an online adoption application.

Every Life Counts

AFRP has a lifetime commitment to every animal that comes into our care. We do not put animals down because they have been with us too long or have special medical needs. Chester is anxious to find a permanent home because although he's off the streets and safe--he'll quickly tell you that being an orphan is not fun. He wants to find a special family to call his own.

AFRP depends on volunteers and donations from the general public to rescue approximately 1,900 dogs and cats each year. Won't you help us save more animals like Chester?
