Looking For a Home

At AFRP, we're always rooting for the underdog. Andy, a senior Chihuahua mix, had hit the low point of his life after being abandoned and then hit by a car. Even with a crushed pelvis that needed surgical repair, we hoped that Andy's sweet temperament and dogged determination would help him find a forever home once he'd recovered.

But now it's been over a year since Andy had surgery to plate and pin both of his hips, and he's still waiting for his special someone to take him home. He's a wonderful little guy, about 10 years old now, and just the right size for lap-snoozing at seven pounds. His face may be gray, but Andy's now walking like a champ, and you'd never know that he's recovered from a serious injury. His favorite outing is to the beach, and if he's turned loose in a grassy area, he loves to zoom around like a youngster!

Andy is a wise, gentle old soul, and enjoys meeting people and interacting with other small dogs. He can be bossy with cats at first, but does eventually accept their presence. Andy loves to go with you to run errands in the car, and enjoys a nice nap in the sunshine.

Health-wise, he is a senior and needs an adopter sensitive to the needs of older animals. He requires daily eye drops for glaucoma, and tends to leak a bit of urine when he sleeps, so the towels in his crate needs to be washed every day. A small inconvenience compared to the abundance of love Andy has to share.

Andy is currently in foster care in the Santa Cruz area. He would love to meet you! Give us a call at 831-333-0722 or fill out an online adoption application.

Every Life Counts

Onyx is just one of thousands of animals AFRP have rescued since 1998.

AFRP has a lifetime commitment to every animal that comes into our care. We do not put animals down because they have been with us too long or have special medical needs. Andy is anxious to find a permanent home because although he is off the streets and safe--he'll quickly tell you that being an orphan is not fun. He wants to find a special family to call his own.

AFRP depends on volunteers and donations from the general public to rescue approximately 1,900 dogs and cats each year. Won't you help us save more dogs like Andy?
