AFRP Dogs Looking for Homes - Call (831) 333-0722 if you are interested

AFRP's dogs are cared for in foster homes. If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, please call or email first before coming down to the adoption center. On any given day we have 5 to 10 dogs at the center, not ALL of our dogs are on site.

In order to ensure that we make the best match for a dog with a new family, potential adopters are required to go through an interview process, fill out an application, and have a home check done by one of our volunteers. We do not do same day adoptions. After meeting one of our dogs, it might take up to a week before the adoption process is complete and the dog goes home with you.

Please call (831) 333-0722 or email info@animalfriendsrescue.org if you are interested in adopting an AFRP dog and we will have the foster volunteer contact you directly.

AFRP only adopts out dogs that have been spayed/neutered. The adoption fee is $200-$300. The adoption fee helps to cover the cost of the care the animal has received, including spay/neuter, vaccines, microchipping, deworming, and flea treatment. Adopters are encouraged to take their new AFRP dog to one of our participating vets for a free wellness check (see list of participating vets).

She now has a clean bill of health and is ready to go to her forever home. She's a quiet, undemanding companion with a sweet and somewhat timid personality. She's content to lie next to you on the sofa, just happy to be by your side. She loves to go on walks and walks well on a leash, but is perfectly happy being a couch potato too. Since she is still a little reactive to quick movements, would recommend no small children, although she does seem to like children. Posted 3-2-17. Hello! My name is Larry and I am a 5 pound chihuahua/dachshund mix. I am 5 years old, neutered, and in good health. My current family adopted me and soon realized I would be best fit with someone who is home more often during the day, or has a more flexible schedule. I love walks and laps! I am a little shy at first, and I need you to go slow with me. But once I warm up to you I am dedicated and loyal. I get along amazingly with other dogs. My current roommate is also a 5 pound 5 year old chihuahua. My family is working on my crate training and I am learning well. Oh, and don't worry, I am house broken! My family thinks I would do best with a couple who has no kids and flexible schedules. Also, another smaller dog companion would be great for me! I will come to you with lots of love as well as my crate, bed, bowls, leash and collar. I do have a microchip and all of my vaccines are current! Larry is not an AFRP dog and currently lives in San Jose. For more info contact Stephanie at 619-865-4374 or email stephaniejskye@gmail.com
Spike
Posted 2-21-17. Meet Spike, a 6-year-old Chihuahua mix in need of a loving home. He is spunky, full of energy and is a happy little dog. Spike is a friend to everybody and loves other dogs, cats and animals of all types. He is always ready to play or snuggle on your lap. A perfect day for Spike would include playing ball, learning a new trick, walking at the beach or the park, or just napping in the sunshine. He prefers not to be left alone all day, and he is scared of thunder and fireworks. Spike is good in the car and is good with kids. He is healthy and neutered. Spike is not an AFRP dog. For more info contact Lynn at 831-224-5059 or email lovertree@sbcglobal.net
Marley
Posted 1-26-17. Marley is a 3-year-old Maletese mix that was found as an extremely neglected and matted stray and was rescued by some good Samaritans. He is now doing great and is on a raw diet, which he should stay on for his lifetime. Marley is house trained and plays well with other small dogs. He loves his toys and is crate trained. He is nervous about being approached from the back, and always needs to see you approaching him. He suffers from separation anxiety, and will do best in a household where someone is home, no young children. He'll benefit from obedience classes. Marley is not an AFRP dog. Shiloh
Posted 1-11-17. Meet Shiloh, an absolutely handsome 9-year-old, 60 pound Husky/Labrador mix. Shiloh is house-trained, walks well on leash and even knows some basic commands! As you can see, he loves the outdoors and would likely be a great buddy for hiking and adventures. Shiloh also does well with kitties and is a wonderful dog. Sadly, Shiloh has not adapted well to the energy level of the young children in his family (they stress him out) and he needs to find an adult-only home. Shiloh is neutered. Shiloh is not an AFRP dog. If you'd like to meet him, please contact Michael Johnson at (415)342-2579.
Cali
Posted 1-9-17. Cali is a beautiful 11-year-old, 60 pound American Pit Bull Terrier. She has been shown in the UKC show ring and won the title of "Champion." Cali is both house-trained and crate-trained. She walks well on a leash and she even knows some basic commands! Cali can accept other mellow or submissive dogs. Cali has lived with several kitties over the years and done well with them. At night she sleeps quietly in her crate or on her dog bed. She is fine being left at home while you're away. She is spayed. If you'd like to meet Cali, please contact Andre at (408)476-3224.
Pebbles and Brody
Posted 1-4-17. Pebbles (grey/white) and Brody (brown/white) are a bonded pair of 1-year-old pit bulls desperately in need of a loving home together. They are smart, happy and affectionate dogs that are wonderful with children and love going to the groomer. They are healthy and are spayed/neutered and vaccinated. They do not have a mean bone in them! Their guardians love them dearly but need to relocate and are not able to take the dogs with them. Pebbles and Brody need a home with no cats. They are not AFRP dogs and are currently in the King City area. For more information please call Albert at 831-540-7781.
Miss Jet
Posted 12-1-16. Miss Jet is a 6-year-old, 50-pound German Shepherd. The first thing you should know about her is she loves people. The second thing you should know about her is she really, really loves people. This dog never met a stranger. Within moments of greeting her, you have a new best friend who's happy to go wherever you do - on rides in the car, out for a walk, or just relaxing at home. Miss Jet is house-trained, spayed and UTD on shots. She would thrive as the center of your attention as the only pet in her family. To meet Miss Jet, please contact Peace of Mind Dog Rescue at (831)718-9122 or visit their website at www.PeaceOfMindDogRescue.org
Cupcake and Brownie
Post renewed 2-9-17. Cupcake, age 8, and Brownie, age 10, are bonded Chihuahua mixes looking for a home together. They were found living in squalor and were confiscated by animal control officers. Side by side, they wag their tails when they know treats or affection are coming their way! They are friendly with other dogs and are good with cats and chickens. They walk nicely on leashes and look forward to their daily outings. They are spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccinations. Cupcake and Brownie are not AFRP dogs and are under the care of CAPE of Santa Cruz. They have blossomed in foster care and would love to meet you! For more info email Nancy at agodsong7@gmail.com
Mafeo
Renewed on 11-15-16. Mafeo is an 8-year-old, 20 pound neutered Pug/Beagle mix who was abandoned in a box on someone's property. He's a shy guy who gets along well with other dogs. When he meets new people he's very shy and needs a patient guardian who is willing to gain his trust. Mafeo tends to ignore cats when he sees them, so it's possible he'd be fine with a kitty in his future family. Mafeo is crate trained and walks really well on a leash. Mafeo needs a second chance at finding a loving family - can you help? He is not an AFRP dog. If you'd like to meet Mafeo, please contact Loryn at (352)598-4429.
Oso
Renewed 2-10-17. Oso is a 100 pound, 6 year old male Lab/Shepherd mix. Oso is blind, but gets around just fine. He is house trained, walks well on a leash and knows basic commands. He does well with other dogs and especially gets along with female dogs. He enjoys meeting new people and does fine with strangers coming into the house. He has lived with young children and is fine with them. He also does fine with cats. Oso is an overall great dog. His family loves him very much and are heartbroken about having to give him up. With small children in the house and Oso's blindness, they think he'll do better in a home where he'll get more attention. Oso is not an AFRP dog and currently lives in Sacramento. For more about Oso call Cassie at 530-701-5836 or email cassiem202@gmail.com
Achilles
Post renewed 2-10-17. Achilles is an 9 year old, 70lb cattle dog mix. He has a gentle, kind, shy soul but has unfortunately been through many homes recently through no fault of his own. Because of this and his breed mix, Achilles will always be slow to warm up to new people but is interested and does bond with you after just a few days. He will reward you with a little happy dance and some "stump-waggin'" whenever he sees you! All this guy really needs is a comfy corner spot in a stable quiet home environment again! Achilles is fully housebroken, crate-trained, treat motivated, good on leash, tolerant of other dogs, and a quiet companion. He just wants to be near his people again so would be happiest in a home with a full-time adult caretaker. As a shy dog, Achilles is not suitable for a noisy, busy environment and is afraid of most children. He's looking for a retired couple to follow around again for exercise and some comfy dog beds for rest. Achilles is not an AFRP dog. Please contact Diana at (510) 333-4420 or theperfectdogrescue@gmail.com
Carl and Kuchka
Post renewed 12-26-16. Carl and Kuchka are two dogs who were sadly abandoned at a local vet clinic after being hit by a car. They are both healthy now and recovered from their accidents by bonding to one another. Now, they're best friends and inseparable. All they want is a forever home where they can both feel safe and loved! Carl is a 2.5-year-old, 12-pound neutered tan Chihuahua mix. He is SUPER friendly and gets along great with everyone at the vet clinic. Kuchka is a 5-year-old, 13-pound spayed, black Chihuahua mix. Of the two dogs she is much more shy and can be fearful in new situations. Once she gets to know people she can be sweet - the staff at the vet clinic have befriended her and can handle her. If you'd like to meet Carl and Kuchka, please contact Erika at Monterey Peninsula Vet Emergency & Specialty Center (831)373-7374.
