AFRP Dogs Looking for Homes - Call (831) 333-0722 if you are interested

AFRP's dogs are cared for in foster homes. If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, please call or email first before coming down to the adoption center. On any given day we have 5 to 10 dogs at the center, not ALL of our dogs are on site.

In order to ensure that we make the best match for a dog with a new family, potential adopters are required to go through an interview process, fill out an application, and have a home check done by one of our volunteers. We do not do same day adoptions. After meeting one of our dogs, it might take up to a week before the adoption process is complete and the dog goes home with you.

Please call (831) 333-0722 or email info@animalfriendsrescue.org if you are interested in adopting an AFRP dog and we will have the foster volunteer contact you directly.

AFRP only adopts out dogs that have been spayed/neutered. The adoption fee is $200-$300. The adoption fee helps to cover the cost of the care the animal has received, including spay/neuter, vaccines, microchipping, deworming, and flea treatment. Adopters are encouraged to take their new AFRP dog to one of our participating vets for a free wellness check (see list of participating vets).

Brownie
sponsor me

Brownie is a sweet little princess who is looking for a vacant lap or two. She adores humans who are kind and gentle with her and she will dance on her hind legs to ask for your attention; she also bestows quick little kisses once she knows you a bit. Rescued from the shelter in a state of neglect, Brownie has recovered from flea allergy dermatitis and her coat is now thick and shiny. She will need to be kept on flea preventative and also an inexpensive medication for her thyroid. House trained and crate trained, Brownie will be a lovely addition to a quiet, Chihuahua-loving home. Brownie can live with other dogs and cats too, but she really wants to be the center of attention and could be very happy as a spoiled "only child." Her age is estimated to be somewhere around 6-8 years. For more information about meeting or adopting Brownie, please fill out an online application.

Taters
sponsor me

Taters is an 9-year-old, 10-pound Westie/Chi mix who came to us from the Salinas Animal Shelter in 2009. She suffered from severe allergies, and her coat was sparse and her skin was red, thickened, itchy and uncomfortable. It has taken years of trial and error, but Taters has finally found relief thanks to a combination of special diet and medications. She is now a happy little character who enjoys meeting new people and running errands with her foster mom. Taters is house trained and crate trained, and gets along nicely with respectful cats. She's looking for a special adopter who can keep her on her strict diet and medication regimen to ensure her health and happiness. Read more about Taters. For more information about meeting or adopting Taters, please fill out an online application.

Zippy gets along great with other dogs and does fine with dog-savvy cats. He's a playful little guy who loves his chew toys and stuffies! Lexi gets along great with other dogs and enjoys playing with them, but she is at her best when she's a single dog in the home. Her foster mom calls her the best dog in the world! Ginger Brownie is a super sweet 6-year-old, 25-pound Beagle mix with soulful brown eyes and a loving personality. She was rescued as a stray in Bakersfield by a good Samaritan. Ginger Brownie is house trained, gets along great with all dogs and children and ignores cats. She is a bit shy, but she has a huge desire to please you and she is a super companion and follows you around the house like a shadow. Ginger Brownie's left rear leg is a bit shorter than her other - likely due to an untreated break when she was young, but that doesn't hinder her in the least and she can run like the wind! Ginger Brownie does not bark and walks nicely on leash. The perfect dog! For more info about meeting or adopting her, please fill out an online application.

Rocket Dog is a 4 year old, 140 pound Anatolian Shepherd. He is neutered and has no medical issues. He’s house trained, walks well on leash and knows basic commands. Rocket loves other dogs. He loves to run and play with more energetic dogs, but will always be more than happy to chill out when it's time to relax. On one occasion Rocket was attacked by another dog, but did not respond with aggression, just tried to get away. He loves meeting new people, and has always been gentle and calm around children from toddlers to teens. Rocket is indifferent to cats, but when we rescued 3 kittens from underneath our neighbor’s house, the kittens would love to cuddle up to him and sleep with him in his bed. He sleeps in our connected garage on a very comfy dog bed. He’s an indoor/outdoor dog. He is left alone during the normal work day Monday to Friday. Rocket is not an AFRP dog. For more information, contact Daniel in Soledad, CA - 831-676-7678 or email dtsnell@gmail.com
Rolo
Rolo is a 1.5 year old, 14-pound neutered purebred Jack Russell terrier. He is perfectly healthy puppy and crate-trained. It seems he much prefers female dogs, older kids and likes strangers, not sure about cats though. Rolo’s first owner kept him in his crate day in day out, so he needs to get more socialized in his new family. He is a playful, smart dog who still has much to learn. He thoroughly enjoys car rides and is motivated by treats! The person who took Rolo in, has already three rescued dogs at home, and it is the maximum number of dogs she is allowed in her living situation. She can't keep Rolo much longer and would not want him to be euthanized at a local shelter. Rolo deserves a chance in a loving home! If you can help Rolo, please contact Tammy at TALSTERLIND@COMCAST.NET or 650-365-9083
Tank

He is house trained, crate trained, walks well on leash and understands basic commands. Tank responds well to most dogs except when he’s on leash. Does great in dog parks. He leaves cats alone. Tank wags his tail and smiles at everyone he meets -he doesn’t really know what the word "stranger" means. He likes kids, but needs to be introduced to them slowly with supervision. Once he knows them, he’ll follow them around like he’s their best friend. He is an amazing dog and a great companion. He’s very active outdoors, but very calm indoors. He loves to snuggle and just hang out, but is perfectly fine on his own too. Tank will be best matched with an active owner who takes him on walks every day. Zeus injured himself when running in the forest last year and sustained a carpal hyper-extension sprain on the right fore-paw. He uses an external soft splint on the right leg. He walks fine but can no longer do long walks or runs in the forest. He is a super friendly and calm dog, and enjoys people company. He prefers hanging out wherever is cooler and is rather flexible where he sleeps at night, may that be on a deck or the master bedroom. He has a brother, Jasper, these two dogs have been together for the last 7 years and are well bonded. The guardian would prefer them going to the same family, but will also consider individual placement. To learn more about Jasper and Zeus, please contact Joel on 408-313-3487 or joel.rigler@gmail.com

I weigh 45 pounds and most of it is lean muscle. I love to lay in the sun and bark at random things that fly by. Cocoa
Cocoa is a 6 year old neutered male Chihuahua. Cocoa came to us as an owner surrender, he was in a home with big dogs and they would pick on him. So for his own safety we took him into the rescue in October 2013. Cocoa has completed one class of dog obedience, he also had one on one with a trainer. Cocoa is one lovable little dog, he loves to be held like a baby and have his tummy rubbed, those eyes will slowly close. Ask Cocoa to jump into your arms he will, and hold on. He does very well with medium and small size dogs, just not excitable puppies. He is housebroken, walks very well on the leash, and is used to be crated. He has been with older children. Cocoa deserves a new home, one where he can show how much of a lover he is. Cocoa is not an AFRP dog. For more information please call ACGSRescue of Hollister at 831-917-5570 or email Viv.
Carter
Carter is a 7-year-old, 75-pound blind pit bull looking for a home as special as he is. Adopted from a shelter, he was recently returned when his family decided having a blind dog was too much work. Carter adores people but is especially fond of women. His great goal in life is convincing you to rub his belly! Carter will wag his tail and say hi to anyone who approaches. Barking is something he directs at squirrels - he knows when they're around! Carter would like a person who does not get flustered when he runs into things. Carter is house trained and knows sit, although his preferred body position is curled up in his bed. Unable to see important visual cues and unable to give them, Carter sometimes flubs social interactions with other dogs which can lead to scuffles. If you have a laid-back, older dog who can tolerate a large dog bumping into him or her, Carter might appreciate the companionship. But really, Carter just really loves people. Carter is not an AFRP dog. For more info please email e-mail: dogward4 him@yahoo.com or visit www.capeanimals.org
Grasshopper
Grasshopper is a 7-year-old, 5 pound Chihuahua. He is the sweetest little guy, but he does stress out a bit in public. At home however, he is not shy and is very quick to make friends with anyone who many be sitting nearby. He will also go play by himself, and toss a toy around, or go lay down. He is very quiet and fits in easily with other dogs, and we expect, cats too. He does have a slightly hunched back, and although xrays cannot determine anything clinical, we suspect there is some mild neurological stuff going on, as his back legs are a little weak and he can be somewhat wobbly, or tip over. He doesn't do well on too many stairs. Grasshopper is deserving of a wonderful home. He is in the care of Motley Zoo rescue in Washington. He has transportation to the Monterey area if he finds a forever home in this area. Grasshopper is not an AFRP dog. for more info email: info@motleyzoo.org or call 206-453-8480.
Major
Major is a purebred GSD currently with East of Eden Rescue. He is about 3 years old. Major is a big, beautiful dog. However, he is still very puppyish and has limitless energy. Major likes to play with other dogs, but he's big and plays rough. He can also be dominant and will require a breed savvy owner. We do not recommend a home with any small animals, including cats and small dogs. Major is a great dog and with some work he'll be an awesome family member. An adoption application can be found on our website, www.eoerescue.org. The adoption fee for Major is $250 and if you complete an obedience class within 3 months of adoption you will receive a $50 refund. The adoption fee includes his neuter, microchip, current vaccinations and deworming. Please call 209-679-7196 for further information.

Gigi
Gigi's story is very sad, she was discovered living with the body of her deceased owner, in conditions that were unfit even for humans, that was 2 years ago, she has been in foster care ever since. Gigi is very sweet and loving, yet independent in her own way. She loves to go for walks with the other dogs in the foster home, who are much bigger than she is. Enjoys riding in a car. Gigi has a way of greeting that makes her foster Mum feel very special. If you have cats in your home, that is not a problem for Gigi, as she lives with cats too, given the chance she loves to sneak a mouthful from their bowls. If you want lots of love, kisses, and a loving little dog in your life, please consider giving Gigi a home. This is one very special senior dog, who would be a perfect match for a retired person or couple, or someone who works part time. Please contact ACGSRescue of Hollister at 831-917-5570 or email Viv.
