AFRP Dogs Looking for Homes - Call (831) 333-0722 if you are interested

AFRP's dogs are cared for in foster homes. If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, please call or email first before coming down to the adoption center. On any given day we have 5 to 10 dogs at the center, not ALL of our dogs are on site.

In order to ensure that we make the best match for a dog with a new family, potential adopters are required to go through an interview process, fill out an application, and have a home check done by one of our volunteers. We do not do same day adoptions. After meeting one of our dogs, it might take up to a week before the adoption process is complete and the dog goes home with you.

Please call (831) 333-0722 or email info@animalfriendsrescue.org if you are interested in adopting an AFRP dog and we will have the foster volunteer contact you directly.

AFRP only adopts out dogs that have been spayed/neutered. The adoption fee is $200-$300. The adoption fee helps to cover the cost of the care the animal has received, including spay/neuter, vaccines, microchipping, deworming, and flea treatment. Adopters are encouraged to take their new AFRP dog to one of our participating vets for a free wellness check (see list of participating vets).

Andie is a sweet and shy 2-year-old black and tan Chihuahua/Minpin mix who was dumped near the Monterey County Shelter after hours. A field worker found her puppies when they were just a few days old, and the shelter staff used the puppies as bait to capture Andie. Currently in foster care, Andie has been a wonderful mother and has a very sweet personality. Now that her puppies are grown, she's ready for a home of her own. She's a very shy girl and needs an experienced and patient adopter that can continue to help her gain confidence. She is house trained and knows how to walk on the leash. Winnie is a 2-year-old, 11-pound red Dachshund mix who came to us from the Monterey County Shelter after arriving as a homeless mama dog with two puppies to raise. Currently in foster care, Winnie has settled in nicely and is doing great with crate training and house training. Her legs may be short, but she is a fun and bouncy girl who can jump high in the air when excited! Winnie gets along nicely with other dogs, and could live with a confident, dog-savvy cat. Winnie can be a bit shy with new people and new situations, and will do best with an adopter that can help her continue to build confidence. Click here for an online adoption application.

Miss Jet is house-trained, spayed and UTD on shots. She would thrive as the center of your attention as the only pet in her family. Lilac
Posted 11-21-16. Lilac is a wonderful 3-year-old German Shepherd. She is a people dog, loves children, housebroken, will happily jump in a car to go for a ride, all in all she is a happy and healthy dog. Lilac's life has not been easy, after bouncing from one shelter to another. She is somewhat dog reactive, based on fear, but has not attacked or bitten another dog. The BEST home for Lilac would to a family/couple where Lilac is the ONLY DOG (NO CATS PLEASE)...she will make a wonderful addition to a family who is familiar with her breed. We would like to find a family/couple/person who is willing to take Lilac to classes and continue making her feel comfortable around other dogs. Given her breed she will require daily walks, so an active family/couple/person is the best placement. Lilac is not an AFRP dog an is in the care of All Creatures Great and Small of Hollister. Achilles
Post renewed 2-10-17. Achilles is an 9 year old, 70lb cattle dog mix. He has a gentle, kind, shy soul but has unfortunately been through many homes recently through no fault of his own. Because of this and his breed mix, Achilles will always be slow to warm up to new people but is interested and does bond with you after just a few days. He will reward you with a little happy dance and some "stump-waggin'" whenever he sees you! All this guy really needs is a comfy corner spot in a stable quiet home environment again! Achilles is fully housebroken, crate-trained, treat motivated, good on leash, tolerant of other dogs, and a quiet companion. He just wants to be near his people again so would be happiest in a home with a full-time adult caretaker. As a shy dog, Achilles is not suitable for a noisy, busy environment and is afraid of most children. He's looking for a retired couple to follow around again for exercise and some comfy dog beds for rest. Achilles is not an AFRP dog. Please contact Diana at (510) 333-4420 or theperfectdogrescue@gmail.com

He is SUPER friendly and gets along great with everyone at the vet clinic. Kuchka is a 5-year-old, 13-pound spayed, black Chihuahua mix. Of the two dogs she is much more shy and can be fearful in new situations. Once she gets to know people she can be sweet - the staff at the vet clinic have befriended her and can handle her.
