AFRP Dogs Looking for Homes - Call (831) 333-0722 if you are interested

AFRP's dogs are cared for in foster homes. If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, please call or email first before coming down to the adoption center. On any given day we have 5 to 10 dogs at the center, not ALL of our dogs are on site.

In order to ensure that we make the best match for a dog with a new family, potential adopters are required to go through an interview process, fill out an application, and have a home check done by one of our volunteers. We do not do same day adoptions. After meeting one of our dogs, it might take up to a week before the adoption process is complete and the dog goes home with you.

Please call (831) 333-0722 or email info@animalfriendsrescue.org if you are interested in adopting an AFRP dog and we will have the foster volunteer contact you directly.

AFRP only adopts out dogs that have been spayed/neutered. The adoption fee is $200-$300. The adoption fee helps to cover the cost of the care the animal has received, including spay/neuter, vaccines, microchipping, deworming, and flea treatment. Adopters are encouraged to take their new AFRP dog to one of our participating vets for a free wellness check (see list of participating vets).

Shiloh
Posted 1-11-17. Meet Shiloh, an absolutely handsome 9-year-old, 60 pound Husky/Labrador mix. Shiloh is house-trained, walks well on leash and even knows some basic commands! As you can see, he loves the outdoors and would likely be a great buddy for hiking and adventures. Shiloh also does well with kitties and is a wonderful dog. Sadly, Shiloh has not adapted well to the energy level of the young children in his family (they stress him out) and he needs to find an adult-only home. Shiloh is neutered. Shiloh is not an AFRP dog. If you'd like to meet him, please contact Michael Johnson at (415)342-2579.
Jake
Posted 1-11-17. Jake is a 10-year-old, 65 pound Belgian Sheepdog looking for a new family. He's a really good dog who gets along well with other pups and even enjoys taking trips to the local dog park. He's super social with new people and is a loving dog. He is house-trained and this smart guy even knows some basic commands. He walks well on a leash and would be a stellar companion for long walks or hiking. He is neutered. Jake's family adopted him before they had children. Unfortunately, he is fearful of their toddler and it has become a stressful environment for everyone involved. He would totally thrive in an adult only home and is a good dog aside from this issue. Jake is not an AFRP dog. If you'd like to meet him, please contact Christine at (312)859-5398.

She is spayed. If you'd like to meet Cali, please contact Andre at (408)476-3224.

Little Dog is a 9-year-old, 90 pound spayed female Great Dane/Doberman mix. Little Dog has never had the pleasure of being an indoor dog but she would love the chance to see how great it is! She is very obedient and sensitive and would likely be a responsive learner. Little Dog does well with other dogs and also tolerates a stray cat on her property. She is fine with gentle children and waits patiently at home while you're gone.. If you'd like to give Little Dog her second chance, please contact Ray at (831)206-1241.

Lilac
Posted 11-21-16. Lilac is a wonderful 3-year-old German Shepherd. She is a people dog, loves children, housebroken, will happily jump in a car to go for a ride, all in all she is a happy and healthy dog. Lilac's life has not been easy, after bouncing from one shelter to another. She is somewhat dog reactive, based on fear, but has not attacked or bitten another dog. The BEST home for Lilac would to a family/couple where Lilac is the ONLY DOG (NO CATS PLEASE)...she will make a wonderful addition to a family who is familiar with her breed. We would like to find a family/couple/person who is willing to take Lilac to classes and continue making her feel comfortable around other dogs. Given her breed she will require daily walks, so an active family/couple/person is the best placement. Lilac is not an AFRP dog an is in the care of All Creatures Great and Small of Hollister. Call 831-917-5570 or email vivatacgsinc@aol.com

Ruby and Spot
Ruby and Spot, bonded 3-year olds, were rescued last year while running in traffic at the I-5/Santa Nella interchange and are being fostered in a private home in Aptos. Ruby is a gorgeously comical rust/white "Yoda" terrier and Spot is a highly intelligent Australian cattle dog hybrid. They both have been spayed, de-wormed, and have had rabies vaccines. They sit quietly to have their nails trimmed, and get along with cats. They've learned to sit and walk either individually or on a tandem leash. They've been taken out on trail rides with a horse with great success. They love to hike and run off leash and come when called. They love being petted and cuddled! They seldom bark, but do need a home with a yard where they can play, and would be a great match for a jogger or avid hiker or other active human. They have recovered nicely from their trauma, but need someone with a kind heart and soft voice as it's evident they were beaten. If you'd like to meet Ruby and Spot, call 831.688.1387 or email meg@nonprofitdev.com

K.C.
Posted 6-28-16. KC (the black and tan teddy bear) and Myst (the Blue Merle beauty) and are sweet, well-behaved senior Aussies with hearts of gold. They have a foundation of training - both competed in agility in their younger days - and are now ready to settle into a comfortable, loving home where they can put their cuddle-training into daily use! At 15 years young, Myst and KC are very alert and mobile. They do have some diminished hearing and vision loss, but are otherwise healthy and neither require medications. Their lives have been spent as indoor/outdoor dogs in a multi-dog household. They were bred by their owner, who has sadly passed away. Myst is on the shy side but it doesn't take long before you'll see just how sweet she is. These two are strongly bonded so it would be AMAZING if they could be placed together, but this is not a requirement. If you'd like to meet them, please contact Lu at (805)610-7585.

Inyo
Posted 6/17/16. Meet Inyo, she’s a super happy 3 year old mutt (shepherd, lab, rot mix?). We adopted her from a shelter 2 months ago. She is very loving with people, and enjoys good belly rubs! She very well behaved; calm inside the house, gets along well with our cat, is potty trained, and doesn’t chew or bark. She knows some basic commands, is a quick learner and has already picked up a lot since we’ve had her. She is healthy, micro-chipped, spayed and up to date on shots. She is working really hard on training, including 1:1 private training and weekly socialization classes. She is making progress, and would greatly benefit from continued training with her new family. She can be reactive with dogs she does not know, but she has done well on walks with friend’s dogs if she gets a slow introduction. For more info contact Sophie at (831)234-9944 or email Sophie.slosberg@gmail.com

Achilles
Posted 5-12-16. Achilles is an 9 year old, 70lb cattle dog mix. He has a gentle, kind, shy soul but has unfortunately been through many homes recently through no fault of his own. Because of this and his breed mix, Achilles will always be slow to warm up to new people but is interested and does bond with you after just a few days. He will reward you with a little happy dance and some "stump-waggin'" whenever he sees you! All this guy really needs is a comfy corner spot in a stable quiet home environment again! Achilles is fully housebroken, crate-trained, treat motivated, good on leash, tolerant of other dogs, and a quiet companion. He just wants to be near his people again so would be happiest in a home with a full-time adult caretaker. As a shy dog, Achilles is not suitable for a noisy, busy environment and is afraid of most children. He's looking for a retired couple to follow around again for exercise and some comfy dog beds for rest. Achilles is not an AFRP dog. Please contact Diana at (510) 333-4420 or theperfectdogrescue@gmail.com

He's a working dog, not a sitting-at-home or staying-in-the-car kind of dog! Cody knows his basic commands and walks nicely with a Gentle Lead. He likes beach time, chasing balls, stinky socks, little kids, cats and Bearded Dragons. He loves food, other dogs, trail runs, outdoor adventures and looking into your eyes while sitting on your lap! Cody is not an AFRP dog.
