Mat-Su came to AFRP from the Monterey County Shelter with his four siblings, now adopted. Bright, inquisitive and affectionate, Mat-Su is now one year old and weighs 60 pounds. He is a double merle (also known as lethal white) pup. He is deaf and his vision is slightly impaired, but he doesn't mind and lives his life with gusto. Mat-Su is great with other dogs, loves to ride in the car and has a very sweet and loving personality. He's a bit wary of new people, but once he knows you, he's your best friend. Little Oscar is a sweet and friendly 6-year-old, 5-pound Chihuahua mix who came to AFRP from the Salinas Shelter after arriving as a stray in need of medical care. When you meet this lil' guy, you'll just want to scoop him up and tell him everything is going to be okay. Oscar had extensive dental work done, plus surgery to correct severely luxating patellas (kneecaps) on his hind legs. He currently walks very gingerly on his long, fragile legs, and resembles a foal just learning to walk. With time, Oscar will gain strength and move better as he becomes accustomed to using his corrected hind legs. Oscar also has a condition called paraphimosis, which means he has difficulty fully retracting a rather delicate part of his anatomy - put his gun back in his holster, so to speak. Shasta is a 8-year-old sable Australian Shepherd who came to us from the Salinas Shelter. She weighs about 45 pounds. Honey is a 2-year-old Dachshund/Terrier mix with a very sweet and gentle disposition. She was rescued from the Walmart parking lot where her owner were trying to give her away. It was clear that Honey had not had the best life. She was thin, had fleas and ticks on her and was very timid. We suspect she was a neglected backyard dog. Now comfortable in her foster home she is really blossoming into a great little companion. Georgie is a 2-year-old Italian Greyhound/Chi mix and came to us after being abandoned (while in heat) in her neighborhood by her owner when they moved. Brownie is a sweet little princess who is looking for a vacant lap or two. Sierra is an affectionate 6-year-old, 25-pound Cocker Spaniel looking for love.
