AFRP Dogs Looking for Homes - Call (831) 333-0722 if you are interested

AFRP's dogs are cared for in foster homes. If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, please call or email first before coming down to the adoption center. On any given day we have 5 to 10 dogs at the center, not ALL of our dogs are on site.

In order to ensure that we make the best match for a dog with a new family, potential adopters are required to go through an interview process, fill out an application, and have a home check done by one of our volunteers. We do not do same day adoptions. After meeting one of our dogs, it might take up to a week before the adoption process is complete and the dog goes home with you.

Please call (831) 333-0722 or email info@animalfriendsrescue.org if you are interested in adopting an AFRP dog and we will have the foster volunteer contact you directly.

AFRP only adopts out dogs that have been spayed/neutered. The adoption fee is $200-$300. The adoption fee helps to cover the cost of the care the animal has received, including spay/neuter, vaccines, microchipping, deworming, and flea treatment. Adopters are encouraged to take their new AFRP dog to one of our participating vets for a free wellness check (see list of participating vets).

Totoro currently lives with children and cats, and gets along with everybody. His buddy is Sgt. Pepper, also posted, but they do not need to be adopted together. He is a healthy boy that goes for annual vet visits and comes with all his medical records. He is a smart and well behaved dog that is crate trained and knows his basic obedience commands. Lexi
Posted 11-6-17. Lexi is a 9-month-old Shepherd mix that originally came from the Stanislaus County Animal Shelter, after roaming the streets for several months and fending for herself. It took some time for Lexi to trust anyone, but soon she settled in, loved being with all the dogs, great with staff and all visitors. She is undergoing training for food aggression. If you enjoy hiking long walks or love to run Lexi will be the perfect match for you. She is crate trained, and housebroken. LEXI IS BEST SUITED TO A COUPLE, SINGLE PERSON OR A FAMILY WITH NO CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 13, best as the only dog. She prefers a quieter lifestyle to a noisy home. She is a very loving young dog, who did attend basic puppy obedience classes. New adopters will be required to attend further advanced training at an accredited class. Lexi is not an AFRP dog. For more information contact All Creatures Great and Small of Hollister at 831-917-5570 or email viv@acgsinc@aol.com
Charlie
Posted 10-16-17. Charlie is 3.5 year old male mix of American Stafford Terrier, Doberman Pincher, Lab, and SharPei. He was a homeless stray that I rescued. He's a sweet, loving and loyal dog that also has some fearfulness and needs to build a bond of trust with his adopter. He's super-intelligent, house trained, obedience trained (very well-trained and eager to please) and is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. Charlie is a good match for a dog-savvy adult adopter with other large dogs or alone. Charlie does well with dogs he is properly introduced to but has leash reactivity. He lived for three years with a Golden Retriever and other cats and got along fine. I will provide extensive supplies, training instructions, and ongoing support after adoption if needed. I will ask for a rehoming fee of $200 (supplies will be more than that value) to avoid untrustworthy people. This amount can be negotiated. Charlie is not an AFRP dog and currently lives in Berkeley. For more information call Traci at 424-3334981 or email tracilynn06@gmail.com
Tina
Posted 9-14-17. Tina is a 9-year-old spayed female Shih Tzu that was adopted by an elderly couple from a rescue in 2010. They passed away in 2015 and their daughter is looking for a home where Tina can get the love and attention she deserves. She is a love bug and likes to be right next to her people getting pets and loves. She will also rub her face on your leg or any part of you to show her love for you. She is also quite the little watch dog and will bark at anyone ringing the door bell, knocking on the door or walking. However, once she sees that you let the person in, or walk up to and start talking to the person, she calms down and loves them too. She knows how to use a doggy door and loves to be outside. She is happiest when she has the ability to go in an out often and make her "patrols". True to the Shih Tzu tradition, she is a fierce protector, but a very sweet, lovable companion. Tina is not an AFRP dog and currently lives in Monterey County. For more info email Karen at jrzgrl367@outlook.com
Zephyr
Posted 8-7-17. Zephyr is a handsome 2-year-old, 75-pound neutered male Shepherd/Newfoundland mix looking for a loving home. He's a sweet and goofy boy, a gentle giant that loves the people he knows but is shy and must take his time to meet new people. He has great house manners and loves children and other dogs in the house, but needs to work on outside manners when meeting other dogs and people (a reaction to being nervous). He loves to snuggle, go for long walks, ride in the car and play fetch. Zephyr has been through training and obedience programs but still needs work gaining confidence. He's looking for an experienced adopter with other dogs in the home that can mentor him. Zephyr is not an AFRP dog and currently lives in Monterey. For more information email Martha at mdavis.rider@gmail.com
Lokey
Posted 8-2-17. Lokey is a 3 year old English Bull dog mix possibly with some pittie. He is 70 pounds. He was adopted from the Monterey SPCA two years ago. They used him as a tester dog there because he has such a wonderful temperament with other dogs. He is also a huge love with children and adults. His family has young children and a busy work schedule and feel that Lokey would be happier in a home where he had more attention and activity. He is located in Pacific Grove. If you are an excellent doggie home and would like to talk more about Lokey, contact Candi at 831-601-1223.

Marley
Post renewed 9-19-17. Marley is a 3-year-old Maltese mix that was found as an extremely neglected and matted stray and was rescued by some good Samaritans. Marley loves to play, and would be fine with other small laid back FEMALE dog once he gets to know her, but he is very choosy about who he plays with. Marley really LOVES his toys! He is crate trained, and walks very nicely on the leash, is not destructive in the home and is housebroken. Marley likes to always see you approaching him, when picking him up he likes the gentle touch, although he has greatly improved, he just needs to trust. He does know his come, sit and stay. He will shine if given the opportunity to be signed up for further training in obedience classes. Mafeo
Renewed on 6-26-17. Mafeo is an 8-year-old, 20 pound neutered Pug/Beagle mix who was abandoned in a box on someone's property. He's a shy guy who gets along well with other dogs. When he meets new people he's very shy and needs a patient guardian who is willing to gain his trust. Mafeo tends to ignore cats when he sees them, so it's possible he'd be fine with a kitty in his future family. Mafeo is crate trained and walks really well on a leash. Mafeo needs a second chance at finding a loving family - can you help? He is not an AFRP dog. If you'd like to meet Mafeo, please contact Loryn at (352)598-4429.
Achilles
Post renewed 9-19-17. Achilles is an 9 year old, 70lb cattle dog mix. He has a gentle, kind, shy soul but has unfortunately been through many homes recently through no fault of his own. Because of this and his breed mix, Achilles will always be slow to warm up to new people but is interested and does bond with you after just a few days. He will reward you with a little happy dance and some "stump-waggin'" whenever he sees you! All this guy really needs is a comfy corner spot in a stable quiet home environment again! Achilles is fully housebroken, crate-trained, treat motivated, good on leash, tolerant of other dogs, and a quiet companion. He just wants to be near his people again so would be happiest in a home with a full-time adult caretaker. As a shy dog, Achilles is not suitable for a noisy, busy environment and is afraid of most children. He's looking for a retired couple to follow around again for exercise and some comfy dog beds for rest. Achilles is not an AFRP dog. Please contact Diana at (510) 333-4420 or theperfectdogrescue@gmail.com

All they want is a forever home where they can both feel safe and loved! Carl is a 2.5-year-old, 12-pound neutered tan Chihuahua mix. He is SUPER friendly and gets along great with everyone at the vet clinic. Kuchka is a 5-year-old, 13-pound spayed, black Chihuahua mix. Of the two dogs she is much more shy and can be fearful in new situations. Once she gets to know people she can be sweet - the staff at the vet clinic have befriended her and can handle her.
