AFRP Dogs Looking for Homes - Call (831) 333-0722 if you are interested |
||
|
AFRP's dogs are cared for in foster homes. If you are
interested in adopting one of our dogs, please call or email first
before coming down to the adoption center. On any given day we have
5 to 10 dogs at the center, not ALL of our dogs are on site.
In order to ensure that we make the best match for a dog with a new family, potential adopters are required to go through an interview process, fill out an application, and have a home check done by one of our volunteers. We do not do same day adoptions. After meeting one of our dogs, it might take up to a week before the adoption process is complete and the dog goes home with you. Please call (831) 333-0722 or email info@animalfriendsrescue.org if you are interested in adopting an AFRP dog and we will have the foster volunteer contact you directly. AFRP only adopts out dogs that have been spayed/neutered. The adoption fee is $200-$300. The adoption fee helps to cover the cost of the care the animal has received, including spay/neuter, vaccines, microchipping, deworming, and flea treatment. Adopters are encouraged to take their new AFRP dog to one of our participating vets for a free wellness check (see list of participating vets).

Penny Penny is a 3-year-old pit bull mix with a beautiful white and coppery red coat. She weighs about 50 pounds and has a happy, wiggly, playful personality. Penny has an elegant physique with long legs and a sleek, lean body. She has been at the Monterey County Animal Services since May 2 and is eager to have a home of her own. Penny is a staff favorite and spends a lot of time at the front customer service desk greeting visitors as they come in. If you would like to meet Penny, visit her at the Monterey County Animal Services, 160 Hitchcock Road in Salinas or call 831-769-8850 and ask about animal #A082248. |
Rimshot Rimshot is a handsome 1 1/2 year old black tricolor Australian Shepherd. He's a smart, friendly dog who loves to go for walks and rides in the car. He came to us from the Peninsula Humane Society, and had recovered from a case of pneumonia. He came to us knowing nothing--completely untrained. He has since picked up several basic commands and is bright and eager to please. He is not yet house trained but is working on it! He'd be a great dog for an active adopter who can continue to work with him. He is not safe with cats, and needs a feline-free home. Rimshot is currently in foster care in Santa Cruz. If you are interested in him, please fill out an online adoption application. |
Max sponsor me Max is handsome 7-year-old, 18 pound Lhasa Apso. He lost his home when his owners had to move and could not take him along. Max is house trained, great on the leash and loves to go for rides in the car. He's not particularly interested in playing with other dogs, but he is tolerant of other dogs in the home as long as they aren't pushy. Max is a fairly typical Lhasa in that he can be a bit stubborn when you want him to do something he doesn't want to do! He has a dominant personality. For this reason we are looking for an adult-only home for Max, and experience with this breed would be a plus. He is currently in foster care in the Santa Cruz area. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an online adoption application. Sponsored By: Teri & Rex Carter in honor of Scout, who was our best friend in the world; and Lucy, an adoptee from AFRP we already love! |

Satchel Satchel is a loving 8-month-old pit bull terrier mix with an exceptionally calm, poised temperament. He will probably weigh about 45 pounds when mature. Next to cuddling in a warm lap, Satchel's favorite activity is romping with the other dogs in his foster home. Satchel would do best in a home that gives him lots of affection, companionship, mental and physical exercise and that has another good-natured dog who can be Satchel's best 4-legged buddy. An understanding of the special responsibilities of properly raising and training a bully breed pup is essential. Satchel already knows basic commands, is eager to please, and has what it takes to become a stellar breed ambassador. If you are interested in adopting Satchel, please fill out an online adoption application. |
Dominic sponsor me Dominic is a sweet 2-year-old, 12 pound Chihuahua mix who came to us from the Salinas Animal Shelter. You'll fall in love with his soulful brown eyes! He was a bit of a shy guy at the shelter, but his personality has blossomed now that he is in foster care. He'd do best in a home where he will get a nice daily walk, go to formal obedience training classes and a consistent routine at home. Dominic is looking for an adult home or a home with older children. He gets along with other dogs, but has not been tested with cats. For more about adopting Dominic, please fill out an online adoption application. Sponsored By: Kimberly Daugherty |
Ebony With her flowing, glossy black coat, Ebony is a true beauty. She is a one-year-old 35 pound chow-mix with a violet-colored tongue! She is very unique and a show-stopper. Ebony is a very nice girl who enjoys playing with other dogs and would love to have a playful companion dog; however, she is not cat-safe, as she will persistently chase them. It appears that Ebony has had some obedience training; she sits very nicely at the offer of a treat. She travels nicely in the car and crates easily. She is a wonderful young dog who is ready to find and bond with a loving and caring family. Ebony is in boarding and would love to find herself a foster or adoptive home soon. If you are interested in Ebony, please fill out an online adoption application. |

Bambi has an easygoing personality and always seems to have a happy doggie grin on her face. Bambi is house trained, loves to go for walks and enjoys cuddling with people. Bambi gets along nicely with other dogs of all ages, and ignores cats. She has some vision loss and takes a daily pill for her heart, but is otherwise in great health. Bambi is currently in foster care in Pacific Grove, and comes to the AFRP Adoption Center Tuesday - Saturday afternoons to meet potential adopters. If you are interested in adopting this wonderful senior, please fill out an online adoption application. Sponsored By: Sherry and Bill in honor of Gus, who went to be with Sparky |
Maisy sponsor me Maisy is possibly a Terrier/Cockapoo mix. She's about 1 year old, and weighs about 20 pounds, Maisy has a playful, happy-go-lucky personality even though she came from a neglectful home. She was surrendered to the Monterey County Animal Services after snapping at some children who were tormenting her with rocks and sticks. She has since passed a temperament test with flying colors. Maisy's coat had to be shaved down due to severe matting, but will soon be fluffy and beautiful once again. We are looking for an adult home for Maisy due to her negative experience with children in the past. If you are interested in giving Maisy the second chance she's hoping for, please fill out an online adoption application. |
Fiona sponsor me Fiona is a sweet and quiet 2-year-old Chihuahua mix who came to us from the Monterey County Animal Services after coming in as a stray. She has expressive hazel eyes, and a yummy chocolate brown and tan coat that will remind you of a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup! Fiona is house trained and crate trained and gets along great with the other three dogs in her foster home. She would probably do fine with cats and gentle children. Sherman sponsor me Sherman is a lovable senior shepherd/lab mix who came to us from the Monterey County Animal Services. He's about 8-9 years old and is an easygoing, confident guy who is a perfect gentleman with cats and other dogs. With maturity comes impeccable house manners--Sherman is completely house trained and would never chew anything he wasn't supposed to. Sherman has a lot of love to share and If allowed, he will climb into your lap--all 80 pounds of him--for some love and cuddle time. Sherman takes a daily dose of Rimadyl for age-related aches and pains, and will need an adopter willing to take on the responsibilities that come with adopting a senior animal. If you would like to help make sure Sherman's golden years are the best he's ever had, please fill out an online adoption application. |
Napoleon Napoleon is an adorable 6-month-old Chihuahua puppy who will only weigh about 5 pounds when he's all grown up. He may be tiny but he thinks he's a big guy and will muster up a ferocious "yip" to show other dogs how tough he is! Napoleon is happy, friendly and interested in everything that is going on around him. He especially likes to view the world from the safety of his person's arms or a front carrying pouch. Napoleon was born with a luxating patella in his hind leg--his kneecap wouldn't stay in the correct position. He had surgery to correct this and is doing great. Because of his fragile size, Napoleon would do best in an adult home or with a family with teenagers. If you are interested in adopting Napoleon, please fill out an online adoption application. |
Numi sponsor me Numi, short for Numinous (meaning full of spirit and grace), is a happy 7-year-old, 75 pound bully breed mix. She is very well-socialized and knows the commands sit, down and stay. She loves to go to the beach to meet other 4-legged friends and is a gentle, good-hearted dog. After her daily walk, Numi is happy to nap and spend the rest of the day quietly. Numi is completely house trained. After living with her family since she was 7 weeks old Numi is now in the care of AFRP. If you are interested in adopting Numi, please fill out an online adoption application. Sponsored By: Sylvia in honor of Numi: a sweet, gentle, wise companion |

Ritz Ritz is a sweet 3-5 year old white Chihuahua mix who is hoping for a rags-to-riches story. Found as a stray, shivering in the cold and nothing but skin and bones, Ritz ended up at the Salinas Shelter and needed help. We got him some vet care, put him in a foster home and he's made a great comeback. He only weighs 5 pounds but has a big personality. Ritz gets along okay with other small female dogs but needs a home with no cats. He bonds easily and has a funny and outgoing personality once he gets to know you. Ritz hopes to experience the comforts of a warm, loving home of his own very soon. If you can help make his dreams come true, please fill out an online adoption application. |

Charlie Charlie is a bouncy, happy little guy despite a rough patch in his young life. He is a 1-year-old chihuahua/terrier mix and weighs 12 pounds. Charlie was hit by a car and his leg was badly broken, requiring an expensive surgery and a lengthy recovery. He's all better now and is looking to meet a new family. Charlie is still very puppyish in many respects, especially his undying love of plush squeaky toys! He loves other playful dogs and will be trainable around cats. He would love to find an adult home with someone who can take him for lots of walks, throw his toys for him and let him occupy their laps as much as possible! He is house trained and is an all around delightful little companion dog. If you would like to adopt Charlie, please fill out an online adoption application. |

Samuel sponsor me With his dark muzzle, Samuel almost looks like a miniature German Shepherd! One year old and 11 pounds, Samuel is most likely a Terrier/Min-Pin mix. Samuel came to us from the Salinas Animal Services after coming in as a stray. He loves to cuddle and is the first one onto an empty lap. Samuel gets along fine with the other dogs in his foster home, but can guard his person so needs an adopter that can work with him on leadership and boundaries. Sam is already a star in obedience classes, and can run like the wind (agility in his future?) Samuel is ready to put the difficulties of his former life in the past. He is looking for an adult home--he has not been tested with cats or children. If you would like to adopt Samuel, please fill out an online adoption application. |
Storm Storm is an adorable 12-week-old Flat-Coated Retriever mix. She currently weights 20 pounds and will probably be a 50 pound dog when fully grown. She came to us from the Hollister Shelter. She would be happy living with a retired person, or is also fine alone during the day in a busy person's absence.
