AFRP Dogs Looking for Homes - Call (831) 333-0722 if you are interested |
||
|
AFRP's dogs are cared for in foster homes. If you are
interested in adopting one of our dogs, please call or email first
before coming down to the adoption center. On any given day we have
5 to 10 dogs at the center, not ALL of our dogs are on site.
In order to ensure that we make the best match for a dog with a new family, potential adopters are required to go through an interview process, fill out an application, and have a home check done by one of our volunteers. We do not do same day adoptions. After meeting one of our dogs, it might take up to a week before the adoption process is complete and the dog goes home with you. Please call (831) 333-0722 or email info@animalfriendsrescue.org if you are interested in adopting an AFRP dog and we will have the foster volunteer contact you directly. AFRP only adopts out dogs that have been spayed/neutered. The adoption fee is $200-$300. The adoption fee helps to cover the cost of the care the animal has received, including spay/neuter, vaccines, microchipping, deworming, and flea treatment. Adopters are encouraged to take their new AFRP dog to one of our participating vets for a free wellness check (see list of participating vets).

Tess sponsor me Tess is a sweet 9-year-old Yellow Lab/Shepherd mix and weighs about 70 pounds. She lost her home due to an illness in the family. Tess is a very good girl and gets along great with other dogs, dog-savvy cats, people and children. She has great house manners and is perfectly house trained. Tess will sit nicely for a treat and knows her other basic obedience commands too. Tess likes to go outside for walks and outings, but she does not like to be shut in the backyard alone. She likes being a house dog and loves attention from people. Since losing her home, Tess has developed some separation anxiety and would do best in a home where her family is around much of the day. With some patience and love, Tess will provide many years of companionship. Read more about Tess. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an online adoption application. Sponsored By: Jim and Lynda Sheppard in memory of Mandy, another older AFRP dog who brightened our lives |
Bruster sponsor me Bruster is a handsome 9-month-old, 45 pound Pit Bull mix pup who came to us from the Monterey County Shelter after coming in as a stray. He is an extremely easygoing young guy, who loves to run and play just as much as he likes to snuggle on the couch. He plays well with all other dogs, and lives with another dog and a cat in his foster home. He is crate trained and house trained, and is learning his basic training skills. Bruster is great off-leash, not going much further then 6 feet away from you before turning back to check in with you. He loves walks at the beach and hikes in the forest, enjoys the dog park (he especially loves playing with small dogs there!), and excells at responding to voice commands. He would be a great companion for someone who loves to be active, and would do well with older children. Click here to visit Bruster's Blog. If you would like to learn more about Bruster, please fill out an online adoption application. |
Monty sponsor me Monty is a darling 4-month-old Chihuahua mix puppy who came to us from the Salinas Animal Services. Both of his front legs were deformed, probably from birth. The vet splinted his left front leg, and it eventually grew strong enough for Monty to use. There was nothing the vet could do for the right leg, and Monty holds it up when he runs and plays. Monty loves chasing balls almost as much as he loves snuggling with people. He's a delightful little guy and gets along great with cats and other dogs. He's a teeny dog with a big heart and a strong spirit. He's already overcome so much adversity in his young life, and he's never stopped to feel sorry for himself. He's a dear little pup and will make someone very happy! Due to his fragile limbs, he'd do best with an adult adopter. Meet Monty at the AFRP Adoption Center, he's here Tuesdays - Saturdays between noon - 3:30pm. |

Girl sponsor me Girl is a beautiful 5-year-old, 70 pound Boxer mix. She came to us from the Salinas Shelter, where she ended up when her owners divorced. She had suffered some physical abuse in her former home and developed some arthritis or nerve damage in her back legs and hips as a result. This has not slowed her down, and she enjoys going on twice daily walks or hikes. Once she's had her exercise, she pretty much naps away the rest of the day, and sleeps quietly all night. Girl is house trained and gets along fine with male dogs. We don't know about cats. Adult home preferred. If you are interested in giving Girl the second chance she deserves, please fill out an online adoption application. Sponsored By: Peter J. Hable in honor of O-dog and all the happy hounds! |
Boots sponsor me Boots is a slender, long-legged terrier/Italian Greyhound mix who has recovered from two broken front legs. She's about 9 months old and weighs 15 pounds. Boots came to us from the Monterey County Shelter after coming in as an injured stray. She had orthopedic surgery to repair her fractures, and she has made a wonderful recovery. She is a very sweet girl, a bit timid in new situations but doing very well considering all she's been through in her short life. Boots would be a good match for an adult family who can continue her training and give her a stable, loving home. Meet Boots at the AFRP Adoption Center, she's here Tuesdays - Saturdays from noon - 3:30 pm. Sponsored By: Connie Shelstad |
Cassie sponsor me Cassie is a gorgeous 3-year-old Australian Shepherd/Australian Cattle Dog mix with stunning blue eyes. She weighs about 25 pounds. Cassie was formerly with AFRP and was adopted in 2007. Sadly, her owner recently passed away, and now Cassie is looking for a new home. She's a super-friendly dog and loves everyone she meets. She'd be great with a family with older kids. Cassie gets along with other dogs, but can be a bit bossy. If you have a dog that doesn't mind living with a dominant female, Cassie would be a good match. She has lived with cats and does fine with them. Cassie is currently in foster care in Santa Cruz. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an online application. |

Enzo sponsor me Enzo is an adorable 2-3 year-old black tricolor Miniature Australian Shepherd. He's a tiny little guy and only weighs 15 pounds. Enzo is a happy, wiggly, energetic dog who would do well with an active adopter. He loves to play with other dogs, and if sees another dog while he's out for a walk, he cries and barks at them to try to get them to play! He's great with other dogs but would probably do best with no cats in the home. Enzo would be a great match for someone that can provide him with daily exercise and can continue his training. He's in foster care in Santa Cruz. If you are interested in meeting Enzo, please fill out an online adoption application. |
Wendy sponsor me Wendy is a gorgeous 5-month-old Black Lab mix puppy (solid black, no white markings) who came to us from an overcrowded shelter in Louisiana. Wendy is calm and gentle with people and is okay with other dogs but would also do fine as a single dog in the home. Wendy loves everyone and would be a great match for an adult household or family with kids over age 12. Puppy obedience classes are required with adoption. Meet Wendy at the AFRP Adoption Center, 560 Lighthouse Ave in Pacific Grove. She's here Tuesdays - Saturdays from 12 - 3:30 pm. Sponsored By: Simona Prochazka in honor of my furry babies |

Susie sponsor me Susie is an 8-9 year old, 50 pound American Staffordshire Terrier mix who came to us from the Salinas Animal Shelter. Susie has lived a hard life, being used to breed litter after litter of puppies in someone's backyard, and then was discarded. She deserves a warm bed and someone to pamper her for her remaining years. Susie adores being petted, and considers herself lap-dog material. She takes treats from your fingers with the softest mouth possible. Susie gets along well with other dogs, but we're not sure how she'll do with cats. Can you prove to Susie that the best years are yet to come? Susie is currently in foster care. If you are interested in adopting her, please fill out an online adoption application. |
Malibu sponsor me Malibu is ready to hit the beach with you! He's a handsome 4-5 year-old blue merle Australian Shepherd with a tail. He has stunning eyes that are a mixture of brown and blue - called marble eyes. Malibu came to us from the Contra Costa Shelter. He had been neglected in his former home and was extremely thin and covered with fleas when he arrived. His coat was poor from lack of good nutrition, and his teeth are very worn for a dog of his age. Despite all that, he's a very sweet dog who loves everyone. He has a mellow and calm temperament and gets along great with other dogs and cats too. He'll weigh about 45 pounds when he's filled out. Malibu is in foster care in Santa Cruz. If you are interested, please fill out an online application. |
Slick sponsor me Slick is a 1-year-old, 10 pound Chihuahua mix who came to us from the Salinas Animal Shelter. He's a sweet and lively little dog with a waggy tail and lots of personality. Slick gets along fine with other dogs, but we're not sure if he's ever lived with a cat. Slick would enjoy living with a fairly active family that could take him for walks, give him lots of love and attention, and continue his training. Meet Slick at the AFRP Adoption Center, 560 Lighthouse Ave in Pacific Grove. Sponsored By: Connie Shelstad, Michael Catalano & Patti Perez in memory of Mac & Jackie |

Lindbergh sponsor me Lindbergh, aka Lindy, is an adorable tricolor Chihuahua mix with big "airplane ears" and expressive brown eyes. He's about one year old and weighs 15 pounds. Lindy came to us from the Salinas Animal Services after coming in as a stray. Very scared in the shelter environment, once Lindy went into foster care his personality started to blossom. He's still a bit shy with new people but warms up quickly. He's happiest when romping and playing with other dogs. Lindy is crate trained and house trained, is a good traveller in the car and is respectful of dog-savvy cats. He'd be a great match for a calm household with other dog buddies to play with. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an online adoption application. Sponsored By: Simona Prochazka in honor of my furry family |
Carmel sponsor me Carmel is a sweet 2-year-old, 12 pound Beagle/Chihuahua mix with a waggy tail for everyone she meets. Carmel came to us from the Salinas Animal Shelter after coming in as a stray. The vet was able to repair the cherry eye (prolapsed gland of the third eyelid) in her right eye, and she will have the left eye repaired on March 8. She should have no future problems. Carmel is completely house trained and crate trained, and gets along great with the other dog in her foster home. She's a playful, energetic dog that loves to go for walks and loves to romp in the backyard and play catch. She is good in the car, has no separation anxiety issues, and is quiet unless someone comes to the door. She knows how to sit and stay, and is eager to learn more. Hit by a car, Andy had a shattered pelvis and was surrendered to the San Jose Shelter when his family could not afford the care he needed. AFRP got Andy the surgery he needed, and he's healed up very well. Andy loves the company of all people and small dogs He is bossy with cats at first but does adjust. He enjoys rides in the car, lap time and walks. He loves the beach and enjoys running and playing in grassy areas. Andy needs daily eye drops for glaucoma, and leaks a bit of urine when he sleeps. Peppy sponsor me Peppy is a 6-7 month old Chihuahua/Minpin mix pup with a shiny black and white coat. Thanks to three months of patience and love in foster care, Peppy has started to blossom and gain confidence. He's looking for an adopter that can continue the process of socializing him by exposing him to new sights, sounds and experiences. Initially wary of new people, he does bond closely once you gain his trust. He's happiest in the company of other dogs, where he can let loose and play like a puppy should!
