AFRP Dogs Looking for Homes - Call (831) 333-0722 if you are interested

AFRP's dogs are cared for in foster homes. If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, please call or email first before coming down to the adoption center. On any given day we have 5 to 10 dogs at the center, not ALL of our dogs are on site.

In order to ensure that we make the best match for a dog with a new family, potential adopters are required to go through an interview process, fill out an application, and have a home check done by one of our volunteers. We do not do same day adoptions. After meeting one of our dogs, it might take up to a week before the adoption process is complete and the dog goes home with you.

Please call (831) 333-0722 or email info@animalfriendsrescue.org if you are interested in adopting an AFRP dog and we will have the foster volunteer contact you directly.

AFRP only adopts out dogs that have been spayed/neutered. The adoption fee is $200-$300. The adoption fee helps to cover the cost of the care the animal has received, including spay/neuter, vaccines, microchipping, deworming, and flea treatment. Adopters are encouraged to take their new AFRP dog to one of our participating vets for a free wellness check (see list of participating vets).

Capone
Capone is a fun loving, happy, handsome 5-year-old, 15-pound Dachshund with some degenerative blindness that does not require any ongoing veterinary care or medication. He functions quite well, is very brave, adventurous, even inspirational really as he began going blind around 3 years old. He enjoys playing with other dogs once they become familiar to him. He would do best with another dog to keep him company and guide him. He has a tendency to become aggressive (growling/barking - not biting!) to the unfamiliar (people and animals), which we attribute to his blindness. Capone is looking for a new home because we have two young children, and we are a bit uncertain about his behavior with young children. He is house-trained, walks on a leash daily, neutered and up to date on his shots. Capone is not an AFRP dog. To meet him, email valerie.e.merrell@gmail.com

Princess
Hello my name is Princess and I'm a positively sweet and affectionate Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix that would love to go home with you! Unofficially I am 9 1/2 years old, 43 lbs, current on my vaccinations, flea prevention, and spayed. Don't let my age fool you. I'm very energetic and would make an ideal hiking or walking buddy. Not only do I enjoy a bit of exercise, but I love car rides too. I'm great with kids and used to live with children that were 15 mo and 11yrs old. Although I've lived with other pets and currently live with two cats, I'd like to try being an only dog. I listen well and know my basic commands, but sometimes I can forget when I get very excited. I'm housebroken and usually stay inside. I don't really like crates, but I love a comfy couch. I'd settle for a warm blanket too. My previous owners moved to where they could not take me, but I'm very friendly towards people and I guarantee my favorite place will be sitting right next to you showering you with kisses. Princess is not an AFRP dog and is located in Fremont, CA. Please contact Genelle at 719-310-9304 or genelle_chapman_98@yahoo.com

Jack
Jack is a super cute neutered 8-year-old Poodle/Bichon mix looking for his soul mate! He loves taking long walks, snuggling and playing with his toys. He is house trained. Jack prefers an adult home and does not particularly do well with children or other animals. He would do extremely well with that one special person he can love and will love him back. Jack currently lives in Soquel and is not an AFRP dog. For more info please call Judy at 831-325-4650 or email judyday@dreamtimeinc.com
Kelsey
Kelsey is a 12 year old, 25 pound, mixed breed, spayed female. She is a very cut dog and has been a happy family member. She is healthy, house trained, walks well on leash, and understands basic commands. At home, with her family, Kelsey is a well behaved, sweet dog, but she suffers from fear aggression which makes her reactive when startled. She doesn't do well with high energy puppies, young kids, or strangers who make sudden moves towards her. She does not enjoy going to the groomer. Kelsey has never bitten a person or another dog. Her guardian's life situation is changing and Kelsey needs to find a new home. Ideally, her new family would be patient working with dogs, and could spend more time with Kelsey at home. Kelsey is not an AFRP dog. Please contact Heather at 650-773-2830 or hhnelson58@gmail.com if interested in learning more about Kelsey.
Penny
My name is Penny I'm a 3-year-old pit bull. As you can tell from my picture, I like to think that I'm human. I sit like a human and even try to talk like one. I am house broken and know some cool tricks! I know how to sit, roll over, lay-down, shake your hand, stay, jump, stare at my treat until you give me the "ok" to eat it and I will gently take the food from your mouth if you allow me to. I weigh 45 pounds and most of it is lean muscle. I love to lay in the sun and bark at random things that fly by. I will love you forever if you spray a water hose at me so that I can chomp away at the water. I am spayed and enjoy a good play buddy. Please take me home so that I can love you too :) Penny is not an AFRP dog and currently lives in Los Banos. For more information please call 408-768-1171 or email Ilinka at Ilinka4@hotmail.com
Carter
Carter is a 7-year-old, 75-pound blind pit bull looking for a home as special as he is. Adopted from a shelter, he was recently returned when his family decided having a blind dog was too much work. Carter adores people but is especially fond of women. His great goal in life is convincing you to rub his belly! Carter will wag his tail and say hi to anyone who approaches. Barking is something he directs at squirrels - he knows when they're around! Carter would like a person who does not get flustered when he runs into things. Carter is house trained and knows sit, although his preferred body position is curled up in his bed. Unable to see important visual cues and unable to give them, Carter sometimes flubs social interactions with other dogs which can lead to scuffles. If you have a laid-back, older dog who can tolerate a large dog bumping into him or her, Carter might appreciate the companionship. But really, Carter just really loves people. Carter is not an AFRP dog. For more info please email e-mail: dogward4 him@yahoo.com or visit www.capeanimals.org
