AFRP Dogs Looking for Homes - Call (831) 333-0722 if you are interested

AFRP's dogs are cared for in foster homes. If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, please call or email first before coming down to the adoption center. On any given day we have 5 to 10 dogs at the center, not ALL of our dogs are on site.

In order to ensure that we make the best match for a dog with a new family, potential adopters are required to go through an interview process, fill out an application, and have a home check done by one of our volunteers. We do not do same day adoptions. After meeting one of our dogs, it might take up to a week before the adoption process is complete and the dog goes home with you.

Please call (831) 333-0722 or email info@animalfriendsrescue.org if you are interested in adopting an AFRP dog and we will have the foster volunteer contact you directly.

AFRP only adopts out dogs that have been spayed/neutered. The adoption fee is $200-$300. The adoption fee helps to cover the cost of the care the animal has received, including spay/neuter, vaccines, microchipping, deworming, and flea treatment. Adopters are encouraged to take their new AFRP dog to one of our participating vets for a free wellness check (see list of participating vets).

Girl
sponsor me

Girl is a beautiful 5-year-old, 70 pound Boxer mix. She came to us from the Salinas Shelter, where she ended up when her owners divorced. She had some discomfort in her hind knee which caused her to limp after exercising, and the vet recommended anterior cruciate ligament surgery. She has recovered nicely and is ready for her forever home. Girl enjoys going on daily walks, and once she's had her exercise she's happy to lay by your feet and hang out with you. She sleeps quietly all night, is house trained and gets along fine with male dogs. We're not sure how she does with cats. Adult home preferred. If you are interested in giving Girl the second chance she deserves, please fill out an online adoption application.

Clyde
sponsor me

Cyde is a happy-go-lucky 4-month-old Black Lab mix with possibly some hound or Mastiff tossed in for good measure. He's a big, solid puppy with enormous paws and a tail that will just about knock you down when it starts wagging! Clyde already weighs 45 pounds and it's anybody's guess how big he'll be as an adult. Clyde came to us from the Monterey County Shelter and is eager to gallop into a home of his own. This big boy will be a good match for an adopter that will get him into puppy classes right away and get him started on the road to becoming an obedient and well-behaved adult dog. This bright pup loves people and other dogs, and quickly learned to sit for a treat. Because of his size and activity level, he'd do best in an adult home or family with kids over age 8. If you are interested in meeting Clyde, please fill out an online adoption application.

Blu
sponsor me

Blu is a 40-pound senior American Bulldog mix who lived a tough life. The vet thinks he's about ten, but those ten years were tough ones. He has callouses on his elbows and arthritis in his joints, probably from laying on hard cement all his life. (He absolutely loves his soft, fluffy dog beds in his foster home!) Blu was abandoned in a home for at least three weeks before finally being found. He was weak, emaciated and barely able to stand. Now in foster care, this old boy is living the good life and is very appreciative of a head pat or a back scratch--you can tell he didn't get many in his previous life. Blu is happy to lay at your feet and enjoys being an indoor dog. He is house trained and uses a doggie door. He takes Rimadyl and joint supplements daily. Blu is currently in foster care in Santa Cruz, for more information please fill out an online application.

Buddy
sponsor me

Buddy is a special 1-year-old, 10 pound Spaniel mix. Though completely blind, he's the sweetest little dog you will ever meet. Buddy came to us from the Salinas Shelter. He had inner ear infections that had gone untreated, and the swelling from the chronic infection had left him blind. Instead of feeling helpless, Buddy puts his complete trust in whoever he is with. He is happy sitting on your lap, snuggling with another dog, or resting quietly in his bed. He is crate trained and house trained. Buddy would do fine as a single dog or with another female dog friend. Don't feel sorry for Buddy, he uses his remaining senses to adapt remarkably well to his surroundings. Most people who meet him don't even realize he is blind. For more information about Buddy, please fill out an online application.

Thornton
Thornton is a friendly and easygoing 2-year-old Terrier mix who came to us from the Salinas Shelter after coming in as a stray. He's a one-of-a-kind mutt with a curly tail, a blonde coat, and cute underbite that makes him look like he's always smiling! He's a sturdy little dog and weighs about 18 pounds. Thornton trots along nicely on the leash and gets along fine with other dogs. He loves treats and will be highly trainable. He's not the yappy type and is quiet and mellow. He settles nicely on his doggie bed while you are working or watching TV, and is happy to climb on to your lap for a cuddle. Meet Thornton at the AFRP Adoption Center Tuesdays - Saturdays from noon - 3:30 or fill out an online adoption application.
Dash
sponsor me

Dash is a waggy and wiggly 7-month-old, 10 pound Dachshund/Chihuahua mix who came to us from the Salinas Shelter. He had come in as a stray and the shelter called us to help with him because he was too terrified to be put up for adoption. Happily, Dash has blossomed into a happy and friendly little guy who is eager for a family of his own. He gets along great with other dogs and likes to play and wrestle with the other young pups at our adoption center. Dash is long like a Dachshund, but has longer legs and a cute ridge-like cowlick that runs down the back of his neck. He'll be a great match for a family that can continue his training and give him lots of love and attention. For more information about Dash, please fill out an online adoption application.

Grant
sponsor me

Grant is a friendly 10 pound, 2-year-old Chihuahua mix who came to us from the Monterey County Shelter after coming in as a stray. He's a little lover boy who craves attention and lap time. Grant is good on the leash and loves going for walks. He's an energetic little guy and would be a great match for a family that can make sure he gets plenty of exercise every day. He loves meeting people and does the cutest happy wiggle when you stop to say hello to him. Grant is currently in foster care. For more information, please fill out an online adoption application.

Friday
Friday is a handsome 2-year-old, 16 pound Miniature Pinscher who came to us from the Monterey County Shelter after coming in as a stray. He's a wonderful dog with a calm and affectionate personality. He loves attention and will rub against you like a cat to ask for petting and lap time. Friday has great leash manners and would love an adopter that could take him for daily outings. He is very bright and eager to please, loves his doggie treats and is highly trainable. Friday would be a good match for a fairly active home and would do fine as a single dog. Meet Friday at the AFRP Adoption Center Tuesdays - Saturdays from noon - 3:30 or fill out an online adoption application.
Bridget
sponsor me

Bridget is a sweet six-month-old Puggle (Pug/Beagle mix) looking for a home. You gotta love those big brown eyes! She lost her home when her military family moved overseas and could not take her along. Bridget has lived with another dog and a cat and gets along fine with other animals. She's also good with children. Bridget has the puppy energy you would expect with a six-month-old, but also settles into lap-dog mode very quickly once she's finished playing. She is house trained and eager to learn all her basic commands. If you are interested in adopting Bridget, please fill out an online adoption application.

Cruiser
sponsor me

Cruiser is a big, goofy black lab mix with a sweet and loving personality. He's about 5 years old now and weighs 70 pounds. Cruiser originally came to AFRP from the Monterey County Shelter in July 2006. He was adopted shortly thereafter, but his guardian recently contacted us and Cruiser is in need of a new home. This sweet boy gets along great with other dogs, but does chase cats. He loves everyone he meets and is house trained. He likes being an indoor/outdoor dog and would enjoy a back yard for playing and lounging. If you are interested adopting Cruiser, please fill out an online adoption application.

Ramsay
sponsor me

Ramsay, formerly known as "Baby Boy," is a handsome hazel-eyed 4-month-old Pit Bull puppy who is ready for his forever home after having a rough start in life. He was born with malformed hips, and when he arrived at the Salinas Shelter as a stray pup, we were contacted for assistance. Thankfully, orthopedic vet Dr. Roush offered to repair Ramsay's hips and the surgery went beautifully. Looking at him now, you would never know anything was ever wrong. Ramsay is a bright, friendly, eager pup who is already house trained and crate trained. He gets along great with other dogs of all sizes, and is good with cats and horses. Ramsay loves to play fetch and enjoys going for walks and car rides. Obedience classes required. For more information, please fill out an online adoption application.

Flash
sponsor me

Flash is an adorable 2-year-old, 7-pound Chihuahua mix who came to us from the Monterey County Shelter. He had come in as a stray, and was a big favorite of the shelter staff and volunteers. When three months passed with no adopter for Flash, the shelter asked us for help. Now in foster care, Flash has proved to be an amazing little bundle of doggie joyfulness. He is house trained and crate trained, rides beautifully in the car, enjoys attention but isn't overly-needy, and gets along nicely with other dogs. He loves toys of all sorts, especially squeaky ones or hard chew toys. He has playful energy but can settle down nicely for snuggle time, and is a happy confident dog that would make a good "first dog" for a lucky adopter. Because of his small size, adult household or family with older kids preferred. For more information about Flash, please fill out an online application.

Mulligan
sponsor me

Mulligan is an adorable 1-year-old, 10 pound Terrier mix who came to us from the Salinas Animal Shelter. He's a happy, frisky and energetic little guy who loves life and enjoys meeting new people. He has a joyful wiggly personality and is not shy about giving doggie kisses to his human friends. Mulligan walks with enthusiasm on the leash, and he's very treat-motivated which should make training him a breeze. Mulligan is currently in foster care. Sherman
Sherman is an adorable white and tan Jack Russell Terrier mix with a wiry coat. He's about 4-6 months old and weighs 16 pounds. Sherman came to us from the Salinas Shelter after coming in as a stray. Sherman loves playing with other dogs and is eager to learn everything a puppy needs to know. This is a bright and energetic breed and will do best with an active household. For more information about Sherman, please fill out an online application.
Gena
sponsor me

Gena is a darling 1-2 year old Pomeranian who came to us from the San Jose Shelter. She had some hair loss on her chest that was possibly due to a fungal infection and is improving. This little ball of fluff weighs only 7 pounds and is a delightful little dog. She's a happy, bouncy girl who loves car rides and gets along beautifully with other dogs. She loves snuggling in laps and being held. As far as we know she has not had experience with cats. Gena is currently in foster care in Santa Cruz. For more information, please fill out an online adoption application.

Lexi
sponsor me

Lexi is a fun and frisky 4-month-old, 7 pound Chihuahua/Dachshund mix puppy with a soft tan and white coat. This adorable pup came to us from the King City Shelter and is just as lovable and playful as can be. She's full of puppy energy and would love another young playful dog in her adoptive home. After playtime, Lexi loves snuggling with her person and snoozing under the covers. Lexi is working on both house training and crate training. Due to her small size, she would be a good match for an adult household or family with kids over age 8. Puppy obedience classes required. For more information, please fill out an online adoption application.

Peppy
sponsor me

Peppy is a 6-7 month old Chihuahua/Minpin mix pup with a shiny black and white coat. Picked up as a stray in Salinas in September, Peppy was an extremely shy puppy and was very distressed in the shelter environment. Thanks to several months of patience and love in foster care, Peppy has blossomed and gained confidence. He's looking for an adopter that can continue the process of socializing him by exposing him to new sights, sounds and experiences. Peppy bonds closely once you gain his trust. He's happiest in the company of other dogs, where he can let loose and play like a puppy should! He'd love a home with another young, playful dog. Read more about Peppy. If you are interested in adopting Peppy, please fill out an online adoption application.

Midge
sponsor me

Midge is an adorable 4-year-old, 5.5 pound tricolor Chihuahua mix who came to us from the Salinas Shelter. Too terrified at the shelter to be put up for adoption, the shelter called us for help with this sweet, sensitive girl in need of a second chance. It only took about one day for Midge to start feeling comfortable. Though still a bit timid about new experiences, she is coming along nicely and will make a very sweet little companion for an adopter who can continue to work with her. Midge walks nicely on the leash and likes being a lap dog. She bonds tightly with anyone who gives her a doggie treat and a kind word. If you are interested in meeting Midge, please fill out an online adoption application.

Cassie
Cassie is an itty-bitty 1-year-old, 6 pound chocolate brown Chihuahua pup who came to us from the Monterey County Shelter in January. She had been hit by a car and had a broken front leg. After spending several months in foster care while her leg was healing, Cassie is finally ready for a home of her own! She's a lovable, happy and energetic little girl and aims to please. She likes to take walks and chase her little tennis ball. She is crate-trained and loves to sit on a lap while you watch TV or do work on your computer. She's not yappy, but does bark a warning when someone comes to the house. Cassie is shy around strangers but warms up quickly. Adult home or kids over age 8 preferred. If you would like to meet Cassie, please fill out an online adoption application.
Rudy
sponsor me

Rudy is a 2-year-old, 8 pound Chihuahua/Terrier mix with a cute brindle and white coat. He came to us from the Monterey County Shelter after coming in as an injured stray. He couldn't bear any weight on his left front leg, and the vet determined that it was an old, untreated fracture and that his leg might need to be amputated. Fortunately, with splinting and crate rest, Rudy's leg was saved and he now walks without a trace of a limp! He's a sweet but bashful dog who will blossom with consistent love and guidance. He's looking for a special adopter who will give him the second chance he deserves. If you are interested in Rudy, please fill out an online adoption application.

Gracie
sponsor me

Two-year-old Gracie is four pounds of Chihuahua sauciness! She has a lot to say about all that goes on around her, as all the very best chihuahuas do. Her "no fear" attitude and feistiness is probably what got her through when she was abandoned, pregnant and futilely trying to deliver a 1/2 pound puppy. Her puppy did not survive and Gracie is lucky to be alive herself; the shelter vet was able to do an emergency C-section and spay in the nick of time. This tiny imp needs an adult adopter and would love one with some chihuahua experience. Gracie has learned to really enjoy playing with other small dogs and would enjoy having a canine buddy, or she could be a single dog. Click to view Gracie playing with her friend Max. If you are looking for a whole lot of dog in a very small package, check out Gracie! Click here to read more. If you are interested in adopting Gracie, please fill out an online adoption application.

Homer
Homer is an affectionate 1-year-old, 10-pound West Highland WhiteTerrier mix who's ready to brighten up your life. His odyssey as a stray landed him at the Salinas Animal Shelter, where he could not be put up for adoption because he was so terrified. Now in foster care, Homer's true personality has emerged. He's a quiet and calm little guy and does not have the typical rambunctious terrier personality. He is tolerant and easygoing around other dogs, and ignored the shelter cat he met. Homer enjoys playing with toys, going for walks and outings in the car. He is mostly house trained. If you are looking for a sociable yet undemanding pal who enjoys snuggling and keeping you company around the house, check out Homer! For more information, please fill out an online adoption application.

Slick is a 1-year-old, 10 pound red Minpin/Chihuahua mix who came to us from the Salinas Animal Shelter. He's a sweet and lively little dog with a waggy tail and lots of personality. Slick gets along fine with other dogs, but we're not sure if he's ever lived with a cat. Slick would enjoy living with a fairly active family that could take him for walks, give him lots of love and attention, and continue his training. He's a great little lap dog and is very affectionate. Slick is the "talking dog" at our Adoption Center, and has been heard to say, "I want my mama!" If you are interested in meeting Slick, stop by the AFRP Adoption Center or please fill out an online application.

Augie
sponsor me

Augie is a gentle older red merle Australian Shepherd who came to us from the Hollister Shelter. He weighs about 40 pounds and is at least 8 years old, perhaps older. His teeth are worn and his coat was in a terrible state of neglect when he arrived. Now in foster care, Augie has been bathed, brushed, and looks great! He will sit for a treat and loves attention. He had probably lived his life as an outdoor dog, and is quickly learning his house manners. He's a bright boy and is very eager to please. Even though he's an older gentleman, Augie has plenty of energy and will play fetch with you all day long. He is currently in foster care in Santa Cruz. If you'd like more information, please fill out an online application.

Cupcake
sponsor me

Cupcake is a 1-2 year old, 38 pound Boxer mix with a red and white coat. She was found abandoned in an industrial area in San Jose and is now safely in foster care. Cupcake is a sweet girl who is good with other dogs and is uninterested in cats. She was probably used to living in a backyard, because normal house noises scared her at first--including the toilet flushing, the television, telephone etc. Cupcake is also a bit skittish when out on leash, and needs an adopter that can continue to work with her and expose her to lots of new places and people. She is wary of men and would do best with a female adopter. Cupcake is currently in foster care in the Santa Cruz area. If you are interested in giving this girl the second chance she deserves, please fill out an online adoption application.

This bright boy is food motivated and already knows how to sit, and is working on some other commands and basic manners. He rides nicely in the car and is house trained. Gavin is very athletic and might be a great agility candidate. Perfect match for an active household, best with kids over age 12 due to his activity level. If you are interested in learning more, please fill out an online application.

sponsor me

Tyra is a 1-year-old red tri-color Mini Australian Shepherd. She's a tiny little thing and only weighs about 14 pounds. Tyra came to us from the Stockton Shelter. She's very sweet but still a bit shy which is not surprising considering all the changes that have happened in her life. She loves other dogs and would enjoy living with another gentle, playful dog companion. Tyra rides quietly in the car and is doing well with house training. She's gaining confidence every day and would do best with a patient adopter who can continue to work with her. Tyra has an open fontanel (soft spot) on her head, which sometimes occurs in toy breeds. Read more about this condition. If you are interested in adopting Tyra, please fill out an online adoption application.

Dixie
sponsor me

Dixie is a 2-3 year old, 15 pound tricolor terrier mix. Abandoned, pregnant and living on her own, Dixie was rescued and gave birth to four darling puppies who have all been adopted. Dixie has been in foster care 7 months now and is still working on some residual issues from being abused and abandoned. It takes time to earn her trust, but once you do she's a total sweetheart. For the most part she gets along fine with other dogs and cats, though does tend to be the alpha dog in the home. She has some separation anxiety and would do best in an adult home where someone is home much of the time. If you would like more info about Dixie and are interested in meeting her, please fill out an online adoption application.

Annie is a very sweet dog and is great with kids, cats and other dogs. She has all the manners you'd ever ask for in a companion. Even though she's overweight, she still loves to run and play ball. Annie is currently in foster care in Santa Cruz. If you'd like to know more about her, please fill out an online adoption application.

Max
sponsor me

Max is a super-friendly Corgi/Beagle mix who came to us from the Salinas Shelter after coming in as a stray. He's about 4 years old and weighs 18 pounds. Max is a big love who gives great doggie kisses and loves attention. He doesn't appear to have had much training, but he is treat-motivated and bright. He will be a great training project for someone interested in helping a great dog become even better! Meet Max at the AFRP Adoption Center, he's here Tuesdays - Saturdays from noon - 3:30 p.m. or fill out an online adoption application.

Opie
sponsor me

Opie is a 1-year-old red tri Australian Shepherd who came to us from the Castaic Shelter. He only weighs 43 pounds now, but once he's had some groceries he'll weigh about 60 pounds. Opie is a very sweet, gentle dog and is crate trained and house trained. His main mission in life is to please you! Opie is very social and would do best in a home with another playful dog. He seems to be respectful of cats. Opie is currently in foster care in Santa Cruz. If you are interested in learning more about him, please fill out an online adoption application.

Shadow
Shadow is a 3-year-old neutered and microchipped black tri mini Australian Shepherd mix and weighs about 20 pounds. He is house trained, crate trained and does well with other dogs and cats. Shadow loves to go for walks and is good on the leash. He's a typical Aussie and is full of energy and loves to play. He is very loving to his owners but has some fear aggression towards strangers. He is looking for an adult household that can give him a loving, safe home. Shadow is up to date on vaccines and comes with his vet records. For more information please call 775-267-4340 or email Mike.
Scooby
Scooby is a dog of mystery. We really are not sure what the best breed description for him might be! He is possibly a chihuahua-Boston terrier-mix with a cute bushy and curly tail. He is around 20 lbs. and two years old. Scooby was rescued by a kind-hearted family as a young pup and they now have to find him a new home due to catastrophic changes in their life circumstances. Scooby does well with other dogs and with cats; he also does well with children. He is an active little guy and would love to live somewhere with a nice yard, some fun playmates, and lots of outings planned. If you think he might be the right dog for you, please call his mom, Donna at 831-917-0443.
Carla
Carla is a terrier-mix who weighs around 20 lbs. or so; she probably has some rat terrier in her and is larger than her picture leads you to believe. She is not a chihuahua, although she could mistakenly be taken for one if you didn't meet her in person. And she is worth meeting in person! This dog has obviously been a loved pet and somehow ended up in the shelter. She loves other dogs but is very calm around them; she can walk right past a barking, pulling dog and not even bat an eye. Carla also loves people and children; she seems especially drawn to some people and wants to be gently touch them with her front paws. When a volunteer goes into her kennel to leash her up for a walk, she gets very excited and dances about. She knows exactly what a harness and leash are. She is also very treat-motivated and loves to show off her perfect "sit." Carla is estimated at six years of age and needs someone special to see the beautiful soul in that little body. Carla is waiting for that person at Monterey County Animal Services, 160 Hitchcock Road, Salinas, (831)769-8850. Her animal number is #A098318.
Lexi
Lexi is one giant-sized lap dog and would love to have someone's lap to call her own. She and her sister, Roxie, also on the website, are each around 100 lbs. and are possibly Anatolian-shepherd mixes. They were adopted from the Monterey County shelter at two months of age; they were born in late 2003. Lexi and Roxie are beloved dogs who must be given up due to catastrophic changes in family circumstances. They would love to remain together but can also be adopted separately. They have lived with other dogs and cats and have even helped their mom foster kittens and puppies over the years. Lexi would probably do best with a male dog, with her beloved sister, or as an only dog (she can be somewhat dominant when meeting new dogs). She is spayed and in good health; she would love to have a home where she has a yard to stretch those long legs. Please call Lexi's mom, Donna, if you think you might be able to give Lexi a home for the rest of her life - 831-917-0443.
Roxie
Roxie is a whole lot of sweetheart. She is around 100 lbs. and is possibly an Anatolian-shepherd mix. Roxie and her sister, Lexi (also on website) are sisters that were born in late 2003 and were adopted together from the Monterey County Shelter at two months of age. Their family is heartbroken to give them up but must, due to major changes in life circumstances. Roxie is spayed, active and in very good condition; she has lived with several cats and dogs and even has helped her mom to foster kittens and puppies over the years. She would love to stay in a home with her sister but could also be adopted separately. She would do best in a home with either a male dog, her beloved sister, or no other dogs (she can be somewhat dominant when meeting new dogs, especially females). Roxie loves children but would probably be best with those past the toddler age, as she can knock small ones over without meaning to. If you are looking to add a large amount of canine love to your life, please call Roxie's mom, Donna, at 831-917-0443.
Marcello
Marcello is a neutered 1 year old Black Tri Aussie. He weighs about 40 lbs and is a good dog. However, he is showing a lot of aggression towards my small dog that is only 4 lbs and does not feel comfortable around small children. Therefore, I'm having to do the roughest thing and try to find him a loving home where he will feel more comfortable. He does get along great with dogs his size and larger without incident. He also loves to take long walks and runs daily. He is crate trained, house trained and can heal without a leash. He listens to verbal commands and can sit, go down, stay, and come. He is a very loving dog that would do best in a single dog home with lots and lots of attention or in a home where there is another larger dog. He does need a lot of exercise and playtime. If you feel that he would be a good match for your family, please feel free to contact me. My cell phone number is 619-850-4484 and I live in Marina. Thank you!
Koby
Koby's owner died unexpectedly and Koby was set to be euthanized by Santa Cruz Animal Services. I brought him home to foster until I could find him a forever home. He is a neutered German Rottweiler between 5 and 7 years old. Koby is a lover! His gets along really well with other dogs, and would be best placed in a home with another dog for company. He is a gentle soul who learns quickly and loves his walks. He has learned his basic commands and has a true desire to please. He would be best in a home as a companion for adults or older kids as he is not really aware of his size (about 85 lbs). My alpha female has completely accepted him so he doesn't need to be top dog in a home. He is healthy and is current on shots. I want to find Koby his last forever home. Once you meet him you'll want him to be your forever dog too. Please call Sarah 831-464-1811 home or 831-241-0906 cell.
Cole
Cole is a 2 year old, 55 pound, border collie/lab mix. He had a rough start in life living most of his life in a neglectful situation with little food, companionship, training or socialization. That life is now behind him and he is blossoming into the wonderful dog he was meant to be. Cole is great with people and bonds quickly to his caregiver. He is learning to walk with a gentle leader which helps immensely. Otherwise he pulls on leash and barks and pulls when seeing other dogs. He is a wanna-be alpha male, so he would do best in a home with no other dogs or with a submissive female dog. He is intelligent and catches on quickly when being trained with positive reinforcement methods. Cole is not yet completely housebroken. Having a large fenced yard for playing ball would be ideal for Cole in case he does not become a reliable off leash dog. For more information please email Peace of Mind Dog Rescue.
Roxxie
Roxxie is a 9-year-old, 74 pound spayed female looking for a very special home. In January of this year she underwent back surgery (a hemilaminectomy) but did not regain full use of her hind legs. She uses a wonderful cart to get around in, but needs a fairly strong owner that can lift her in and out of her cart. Her current owner has had Roxxie since she was a puppy, and has developed back problems of her own after caring for Roxie's disability for so many months. She is heartbroken to part with her, but knows Roxxie has lots of love and life left to share with a new family. Roxxie is not an AFRP dog and lives in South San Francisco. If you can help this sweet girl, please call 415-531-6069 or email Maria.
Buddy
Buddy's name should really be Snuggle-Buddy. He is a three-legged Pug/Chihuahua mix, and is under one year old. Due to an injury to his front leg, it had to be amputated, but missing a leg has not slowed Buddy down one bit! He gets along well with other dogs after a proper introduction, and is curious about cats but leaves them alone. He likes children, but small children in a busy household would not be a good fit. Buddy is very smart and is learning about house training and walking on the leash. He is not a barker, and for a young dog is is remarkably calm. He rides well in the car and likes to meet new people. Buddy is in foster care in Santa Cruz and is in the care of Santa Cruz Animal Services. For more information please call foster mom Joan at 831-427-0470.
Madison
Madison is a 3 year old American Bulldog mix, approximately 100 lbs, found as a stray in Central California. She has been in a foster home for two months and has proved to be an absolute sweetheart. She is great with men, women, children, dogs and even cats. She is currently being fostered with a female pit and loves the company. She would do best in a home with another medium to large sized dog that she could play with. Her play style is much like a boxer or bully breed, lots of wrestling, but overall, a completely submissive gentle giant. She had no food or toy aggression at all and housebroken. She is a 'velcro' dog and loves nothing more than to be around you. Her activity level is fairly low; she'll have a few spurts of energy but loves to spend the rest of the day lounging around. Madison is not an AFRP dog. For more information please email Erin.
Sally
Sally is an 11 year old aussie/border collie mix. She weighs 65 pounds. She is a very smart dog and understands many words. She is friendly, gentle, and good around children and babies. She has been active most of her life and like to go on car rides, walks, to the beach, plays ball, and loves to be brushed. She does have some skin allergies, so needs a special diet to keep her skin healthy. Her guardian is in poor health and can no longer care for her. If you would like to meet Sally please email Peace of Mind Dog Rescue.
Daisy
Daisy is a beautiful 3-year-old, 40 pound American Foxhound mix. She is a very bright girl and has completed beginning and intermediate obedience training classes. She can sit, heel and gets along fine with other dogs. Being a hound mix, Daisy can be vocal so would do best in a home with a yard - not an apartment. Daisy is a healthy, active, affectionate girl who would love to join you for walks and hikes, and afterwards hang out with you on the couch. Daisy is not an AFRP dog. If you're interested in giving this nice dog a chance, please contact Pet Friends Rescue of Hollister, 831-634-1191.
Kaya

Kaya is spayed and current on vaccines. She's an intelligent, energetic dog who loves attention. She spent the first 1 1/2 years as a house dog, and is house trained. For more info please call Libby at 831-334-0918.

She is looking for someone to spend her senior years with who will be patient with her while she takes time to bond with someone new. If you are interested in meeting Fran, please contact Peace of Mind Dog Rescue.

Chip
Chip is an 8-week-old Pomeranian/Chihuahua mix puppy. Chip was picked up as a stray at a Hollister shopping center by Animal Control. Hard to believe that such a little tiny puppy was running loose. To be considered to adopt Chip please contact ACGSRescue of Hollister at 831-636-7559 or email Viv.

She gets along just fine with other dogs and happily follows around the other dogs in her foster home. If you'd like to meet Misty, please email Peace of Mind Dog Rescue.

He loves kids, women, some men and is great with other dogs. He tailors his play style to be gentle when playing with small dogs. Kody
My name is Kody, and I am a 7 1/2 year old black lab mix. I have lived with my family since I was 4 months old. My mom and dad got married, and I now have a big family! There are 2 teenagers, a 4 year old and a baby. Although I love my mom and dad, and my teenage brother and sister, I just cannot seem to adjust to the little ones (their energy makes me anxious). I am happy being both indoors and outdoors, although I have only ever slept indoors overnight. I love to hike, walk and run. I can chase a ball like nobody's business. I am trained to sit, lay down, stay and to go in my crate. I keep good watch at my house, but I also listen well and stop any barking I do with a simple "enough." All of my shots are up to date, I am neutered and micro-chipped. If you are interested or would like more information, please call my mom Nicole at 408-892-1498 or my grandma Patricia at 831-625-0357.
Radar
Radar was dropped off in the City yard parking lot in Hollister with his injured leg. Picked up by Animal Control and taken to a vet. After reviewing the x-rays the diagnosis is that the leg is hyper-extended, and will heal just fine with the cast in place. Radar is an extremely sweet and mellow young dog, about seven months old . At the vet's office he was exposed to cats, other dogs and even small children and he was very gentle. He likes everyone he meets. You can touch his tail, ears, paws and his food, and there is no adverse reaction. Radar is with our dogs at The Dog House Inn, Gilroy. His cast is now removed, he still has a slight limp but he has recovered from his injuries. Radar knows sit and down. Pre- registration in Puppy obedience classes will be required by the prospective adoptive family. He is a very sweet dog, who shows a willingness to learn. For more info please email Viv.
Molly
Molly is a 14 1/2 year old Australian Shepherd. She is very devoted to her person, but her person has to move to senior housing and Molly can not go with her. Molly used to live with other dogs, but has been an only dog for so many years, it's probably best if she stays an only dog at this point in her life. She has no experience with cats. Molly can tell dog lovers from non-dog lovers. The dog-lovers get the best of her love. Non dog-lovers she ignores! Molly is deaf, but her vision is very good. She has some arthritis, but has been taking a glucosamine supplement that really helps. She is very reliably housebroken and will quietly stare at you until you get the hint and let her out. She weighs just about 40 pound and is a very sweet dog who deserves a great second home in her golden years. If you are interested in talking more about Molly and meeting her, email Peace of Mind Dog Rescue.

Charlie
Charlie aka "Gramps" was a stray picked up off the streets of Gilroy, CA. He tugged at our hearts as we watched him walking round and round on the concrete floor at the Hollister Shelter, bumping his head on the walls. Charlie is blind. We knew if he was left there, he would surely be put down. This matted elderly doggie seemed to know helped had arrived. We gently picked him up and put him in a crate and took him to the groomers. "What a little doll!" was the comment from the groomers. He loves his food and he enjoys going for walks, including on the beach. He enjoys quiet time at your side while you watch television or read a book. If there is anyone who has a true heart for senior dogs and would like to adopt Gramps please call us. We believe that senior dogs deserve a chance. For more info please email Viv.
Red
Hi! My name is Red (aka "The Love Sponge"). Im an 8 year old, healthy, Plott Hound/Lab mix. I am an exellent companion for people and dogs! I love to snuggle on the sofa, go for walks, snuggle in bed, wrestle with dog friends and did I mention I love to snuggle? I ride really well in the car and love to be brushed. I'm current on vaccines, neutered, on heartguard and I'm house trained. My foster parents are helping me find a loving home with a good fence, without cats and children that are older, if applicable. A dog sibling would be nice too! My first 8 years were Ruff! I'm looking forward to being adored for the next 8. Red is in the care of CAPE. If you'd like to learn more, please call Cathy @ 831-335-5177. For adoption in Santa Cruz County, CA only.
Juicy Fruit
Juicy Fruit (also known as "Toby") is a sweet loving boy. Like all typical American Pit bull Terriers, he adores all people, especially children. Toby is 5 years old and in great health. He is good with most dogs and would probably do well with a female dog sister. Toby is not a dog park dog but you will never regret that minor concession. Toby is crate trained and housetrained. He is the ultimate companion dog, ready for some snuggles and love with his forever family. No cats please. Toby is in foster through Santa Cruz Animal Services. Please contact Elisabeth at 831-419-0207 or go to http://www.scanimalservices.us/ for more information.
Barney
Barney is a 1-year-old Chihuahua who came from the Hollister Shelter. He is a sweet little dog, he gets along well with other dogs...rides well in a crate...needs work in the housebreaking department. We do not think Barney was kept inside a home before, he has lots of fun warm places to sleep, he chooses the cold spot, tucked away. Before long we are sure he will love to snuggle up in the doggie beds. Barney gets to play with Gizzy who was adopted from us last year. To be considered to adopt Barney please contact ACGSRescue of Hollister at 831-636-7559 or email Viv.
Titan

Sagg
Sagg is a 3 year old purebred Wirehaired Daschund with a wild boar coat. He is a gorgeous dog! He weighs approximately 35-40 pounds. He is nuetered, vaccinated, and licensed in Santa Cruz County for the next year, and to top it all off, he is cat, dog, bird, and child approved, no agression issues with this guy! Sagg would benefit from a basic obedience course if you would like him to learn commands, however he walks wonderfully on a leash, probably because of his time in the show ring. Sagg was finished in the AKC. He probably spent the last couple years outside so he does need some work on adjusting to strange sounds (he whimpers very loudly when he is scared). If you would like to meet Sagg or ask any questions, please email Anna.
Gigi
Gigi's story is very sad. Her owner died, and she was left in the home for five days, surviving on the rats that also shared the home. No one knew Gigi was there. Thanks to a neighbor, the gardeners and Deb from Hollister Vet Clinic, Gigi was rescued. She was given a complete vet check, full blood panel, teeth extracted & cleaned, heartworm tested, bathed and nails all trimmed back. She actually is in good health. Gigi is a very happy sweet dog, she will make an excellent companion for a retired person/couple. She warms up to people very quickly. Will someone offer this lively senior doggie a loving home. Please contact ACGSRescue of Hollister at 831-636-7559 or email Viv.
Neemo
Neemo is a 7-year-old, 25 pound purebred Welsh Terrier looking for a quiet yet active adult home. He is full of love and spunk but is not a hyper dog. He loves walks, enjoys water and loves being a lap dog as well. He is great in the car, good on leash and sits for treats.
