AFRP only adopts out cats that have been spayed/neutered. The adoption fee is $150 which helps to cover the cost of all care the animal has received, including their spay/neuter, vaccines, microchipping, and FIV/FeLV testing. Adopters are encouraged to take their new AFRP cat to one of our participating vets for a free wellness check (see list of participating vets).

Miss Pixie is a gorgeous 8-year-old blue-eyed dilute calico with a fun and friendly personality. She and her friend Miss Dixie, also on the web, came to us from the Salinas Shelter after losing their home. Miss Pixie suffered from extensive dental disease, and needed to have most of her teeth extracted. She will need to eat a wet food diet for the rest of her life. Miss Pixie gets along wonderfully with other cats and she enjoys being petted and stroked. She would love to be adopted with her best friend, Miss Dixie. She and her friend Miss Pixie, also on the web, came to us from the Salinas Shelter after losing their home. Dixie suffered from extensive dental disease, and her teeth needed to be extracted to give her relief from pain. This beautiful 2-year-old calico was found as an abandoned kitten behind a fast food restaurant. She was named for the hot fudge sundae plastic lid that was stuck on her head. Scared and semi-social at the time, she has now blossomed into a lovely kitty that loves attention and reaches out with her paws to bring you back in for more head scratches. She is healthy but suffered nerve damage in her tail, which makes it hang straight down. This does not stop her from having a normal life. She will need a quiet home as she still has a tendency to become scared at too much activity. She is fine with well behaved dogs and possibly other easygoing cats. Special girl! Elsie was born to a mama cat that was positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). The virus is not always passed from mothers to kittens, and Elsie's siblings Nettie, Pixie, Elmer and Andy tested negative. Elsie was the only one to test positive for FIV. No big deal! She's a smart, friendly and healthy 9-month-old who loves to keep you company when you work on the computer. She gets along great with small dogs and other cats. Sweet senior! Miss Faith is a petite 14-year-old black cat with the world's best personality. She loves everyone she meets and gets along wonderfully with other cats. She even likes to snuggle up with friendly dogs! Miss Faith was adopted from AFRP many years ago, and recently returned to our care when her guardian could no longer care for her. Like many senior cats, Faith requires special food and medication to regulate her thyroid levels. Binx has mastered the art of rolling over, which is his favorite thing to do when you start to stroke his fur. Binx is a formerly feral cat with a tipped ear. He was socialized in foster care and is ready for a home of his own. He's looking for a patient adopter that will give him time to adapt to new surroundings. Katie is a healthy and happy go lucky 6-year-old indoor/outdoor feline, who lost her home when her family moved overseas. She would do best in a quiet neighborhood with owners who will, after a transition period, allow her to spend time outdoors lounging in the sun. She loves kitty cookies and will come at the call of her name. She loves to wind around your legs with a rolling purr and will gladly help you read the newspaper, work in the garden, or snuggle up to watch TV. He was found crouched in some dry grass at the Salinas Rodeo grounds as a tiny kitten, barely able to open his infected eyes. He underwent surgery to correct entropion, a painful eyelid condition that causes the cat's eyelashes to rub against the corneas. Happily, Stallone is now a joyful, playful and affectionate boy who enjoys life to the fullest. He is in no discomfort but will require daily saline eye drops to keep his eyes moist for his lifetime. Originally adopted from AFRP in 2009, she was a happy girl until a baby arrived in her household, and her family felt they needed to return her to our care due to the stress level in the home. Sadly, our vet discovered that Tama had some painful dental disease and broken teeth, and she needed to have some extractions. Bambi
Bambi is an inquisitive and affectionate 4-month-old black kitten who loves to nuzzle your neck and snuggle against your shoulder. She was rescued as a youngster and was raised in foster care. Due to a previous eye infection, Bambi has some scarring on her right cornea, but her vision is fine. Bambi gets along nicely with other cats, respectful dogs and gentle children. Outdoor Cats
Do you have a ranch, barn, greenhouse, workshop or studio that could be a safe haven for a feral cat or two? We often have a few cats in our care who have lived their whole lives outdoors, and are not comfortable in our adoption center. They will have already been spayed/neutered, and immunized. If you can provide food, water and shelter for feral cats who needs a safe, secure outdoor home, please contact us. Her previous owner had to relinquish her to Peninsula Animal Hospital, as she was no longer able to take care of her. Lady Jessica has Hyperthyroidism, and needs to be on medication daily. Posted 1-25-17. Sunflower is a 1-year-old, 5-pound longhaired tabby with a personality that is just as sunny as her name! She is currently at local vet clinic after being surrendered with some serious health problems. Sunflower was underweight, anemic, and suffered from an infection and a congenital skeletal deformity. Happily, Sunflower is responding to treatment and is a friendly, cuddly kitty full of happy purrs. She is good with other cats, dogs and older kids. Posted 8-19-16. Sweet black-and-white "Bennie" (Benjamin Buttons) needs a loving new home! His original owner rescued him as a kitten but unfortunately she passed away. Bennie is a Clark Gable of a cat; the photo doesn't do him justice. He's so handsome in his shiny black tux and white bib. And such a love-bug! Just over 4 years old, fixed and tested and had shots. Very mellow and happy, gets along with other cats and loves to be petted.The new owner will need to be patient with him at first because of his former-feral skittishness, and he might not be good with small kids for the same reason. Posted 7-15-16. Earl is a handsome, 8-year-old orange tabby. He is incredibly sweet, cuddly, and loves lap time. He is very patient with poking, prodding, and children, but does not have much experience with animals besides his sister. He is neutered and takes daily medication for feline epilepsy, though he has not had any seizures in years. He is an indoor cat and we hope that he can stay with his sister and litter-mate, Misty. Kiwi
Posted 6/23/16. Kiwi is a petite 15-year-old grey and white cat with a very affectionate personality. She has had excellent care over the years and recently had a dental. She is spayed and is current on vaccines. Kiwi loves people and is a very friendly lap cat with excellent litter box habits. She is fine with friendly dogs, but would prefer to be a single cat in the home. Kiwi is a healthy cat but did test positive for FIV after getting in a fight with a neighborhood cat. Kiwi’s family loves her but had to move to housing that is not pet friendly. They were told that Kiwi would be put down at their local shelter due to her age and FIV status. Renewed 2-13-17. This beautiful kitty is Mystique, a 9-year-old Norwegian Forest cat who is looking for her forever home. Mystique would prefer a quiet home where she can be the Alpha cat and lounge around in her bed like the Queen that she is. Mystique loves to be brushed and would like nothing more than to hang out all day in a sunny room and show off her beauty. Posted 5-24-16. Sputnik is a 5-year-old neutered male black cat with a jolly personality! He is a sweet and friendly boy who gets along great with other cats and enjoys the company of adult humans - but is frightened of young children. He has great litter box habits and enjoys being an indoor-outdoor kitty in a safe setting. Sputnik is a healthy cat and is microchipped and up to date on vaccines. His family loves him, but the loud toddlers in his home are making his life miserable. Sputnik is not an AFRP cat and currently lives in Monterey. Post renewed 8/2/16. Andy is an affectionate 8-year-old neutered male tuxedo cat who needs a new home due to landlord restrictions. He's a sweet lap cat and is a wonderful companion. Andy is great with young children and is used to being an indoor/outdoor cat in a safe location. He's not a shy cat but will hide when dogs are around.
