AFRP only adopts out cats that have been spayed/neutered. The adoption fee is $150 which helps to cover the cost of all care the animal has received, including their spay/neuter, vaccines, microchipping, and FIV/FeLV testing. Adopters are encouraged to take their new AFRP cat to one of our participating vets for a free wellness check (see list of participating vets).

Aloicious
Aloicious is a 7-year-old gray and white cat with a friendly, affectionate personality. He loves people and is happiest on a lap or snuggled in bed with you at night. Aloicious was injured as a youngster and though his broken pelvis healed, he had some chronic problems with constipation. Ali underwent surgery to correct the problem, and happily he's now doing great. He will need to be on a high fiber diet for the rest of his life. He's a big love and has lived with older kids. Poland

Poland is a super-affectionate 2-year-old orange tabby with soft, medium-long fur and a gorgeous fluffy tail. She came to us as a young stray mama cat with a litter of kittens to care for. She raised her family in foster care and was an excellent mother. Now her kittens are adopted and Poland is ready for a home of her own. She's playful, curious and loves to be brushed. She enjoys following you around and will hop on your lap when you sit down. Offer her a kitty treat and she'll be your friend forever! She is good with other cats and dogs. Clara Bell

Clara Bell is a sweet and gentle 2- year-old grey and white cat who was born in an old school bus at a wrecking yard in south Monterey County. She was fed by an employee, but never had the luxury of living as a house cat. She loves to be petted and rolls over on her back when you rub her head. Clara Bell is a shy girl and will require a patient adopter who will give her plenty of time to adjust to her new home. Sydney
Sydney is a super friendly and playful 10-month-old who was rescued from the streets of south Monterey County and was raised in a busy foster home. Sydney gets along with everyone, and is great with other cats, dogs and kids. She loves interacting with people and enjoys chasing fishing pole toys and laser pointers. Tummy is a handsome 5-year-old Seal Point Siamese mix looking for a loving home. He's a friendly, easygoing fellow who gets along great with dogs, but would do best as a single cat in the home. Tummy had been free-fed in his former home, and managed to put on quite a bit of weight. He is currently 21 pounds, and is now on a diet food to help him slim down. Rock is the friendliest cat ever! He's a 10-year-old brown tabby who came to us from the Salinas Shelter after arriving in poor condition. He had a host of problems, including alopecia from flea bites, infected teeth, an old pelvic fracture, and an abdominal mass that needed to be removed. He also tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). Read more about FIV. Rock is now done with his medical treatments and is the most upbeat and positive guy you'll ever meet. Kona is a 4-year-old black cat looking for a very special adopter. She came to us from a shelter in Los Angeles that closed down. Sadly, Kona arrived at the L.A. shelter when she was only 12 weeks old, and has spent her entire life in a cage situation. He is currently living at a boarded up General Store in the Arroyo Seco area, and is all alone. He is a sweet cat but can get overstimulated with too much petting. His feeder/caretaker says he does not like other cats, but is fine around well mannered dogs. He will be a wonderful companion while you are in the garden, work shop or art studio. Prima is a stunning 2-year-old kitty with a medium-long charcoal grey coat and golden eyes. She was a long termer at the Salinas Shelter, after arriving there in August as a stray. Abby is a sweet and friendly 13-year-old tortoiseshell who originally came to AFRP from the Monterey County Shelter in 2008. She was adopted and spent several years in a residential home for senior citizens where she spent her days napping on laps and providing companionship for lonely residents. Sadly, that arrangement came to an end, and Abby is once again searching for her forever home. She loves being stroked and scratched under the chin and is an easy cat to fall in love with. Matilda

Matilda is a gorgeous 1-year-old Manx with a very short tail. She was rescued from the Jack in the Box parking lot, where she was attempting to care for her three young kittens. (All adopted.) Matilda is a quiet, easygoing cat with a happy purr. She loves attention and was a very good mother. She gets along great with other cats and was fine with the small dog in her foster home. Francine is a sweet senior tabby who came to us from the Salinas Animal Shelter. She's anywhere from 10 -15 years old and is a tiny little cat weighing 6 pounds. Francine has a very sweet and gentle personality, and would love nothing more than to spend her retirement years on a warm lap. She'd do fine living with other cats that did not pester her. She's had a recent dental, bloodwork and exam. She is in good health other than having thyroid disease. With nobody to care for her, she wandered the grounds of a senior housing complex in Carmel Valley until being rescued by a concerned citizen. Goldie is a 7-month-old calico kitten looking for a loving home. She was rescued from the streets of Salinas with her mom and siblings when they were only a few days old. Raised in foster care, Goldie is a friendly and playful girl who loves people once she gets to know them. Tyler
Tyler is a 8-month-old Maine Coon mix kitten who came to us from the San Jose Shelter. He's a special guy who was born with Cerebellar Hypoplasia, which means the part of his brain that controls fine motor skills and coordination was underdeveloped at birth. He also has micropthalmia and juvenal cataracts, so his vision is impaired. Despite being wobbly and somewhat blind, Tyler follows his foster mom around the house and enjoys playing with kitty toys and snuggling with his kitten friend Sassafras, also on the web. It might be nice for them to be adopted together so she can be his "seeing eye kitty." Tyler needs a safe, indoor-only home. Bear

Lovable old Bear is a 12-year-old orange tabby who lost his home when his family had to move overseas and could not take him along. He is a mellow, easygoing fellow who gets along fine with other cats and does well with respectful dogs. Bear had a mouthful of decaying teeth that needed treatment and has early stages of kidney disease. He is currently on a renal diet and receives subcutaneous fluids twice per week. Bear is currently in foster care but would be happy to find a permanent home with a cat lover experienced with the needs of geriatric kitties. Smokey

Smokey is a friendly 14-year-old senior cat who came to us from the Salinas Shelter after coming in as a stray with severe dental disease. He had ulcerations and badly infected gums which made it very difficult for him to eat. He coped by scooping up a bits of wet food with his paw, and then gingerly licking it off. He was treated with antibiotics and underwent several extractions, but may always need to be monitored for mouth issues related to stomatitis. Lila is an 18-month-old brown tabby who was found abandoned at a hospital parking lot by a kind citizen, and was raised in foster care. She was possibly abused by a former owner, and will do best in a calm and loving household with an adopter that understands that it will take time and patience to forge a bond of trust. Once Lila is comfortable, she is a happy, attention-seeking cat who loves to play with her toys and chat with you using soft meows. Lila would do best as a single cat in an adult household. Emme has not had an easy road, but she is finally ready for her forever home. She's a 3-year-old tortie point Siamese mix who came into our care after arriving at the Santa Cruz County Shelter as a sick, emaciated stray. She only weighed 4 pounds, and needed a feeding tube to help her get the nutrients she needed. She is now a healthy ten pounds and has a great appetite! Born with a condition called eyelid agenesis, Emme underwent several surgeries to graft skin to her upper eyelids to allow her to open and close her eyes with no pain or irritation. Lazy Daze

Lazy Daze is a six-year-old orange female. She gets along nicly with other cats and with cat-friendly dogs. She is an alpha female so she holds her own. She is still very skittish with people but does tolerate petting after she gets to know you. Lazy Daze has had her lower teeth removed as she has a form of stomatitis and may need to have her uppers also removed at a later date. She still eats very well and feels much better now that the painful teeth have been removed. She would love a quiet indoor home where she can learn to bond with her new family. Outdoor Cats
Do you have a ranch, barn, greenhouse, workshop or studio that could be a safe haven for a feral cat or two? We often have a few cats in our care who have lived their whole lives outdoors, and are not comfortable in our adoption center. They will have already been spayed/neutered, and immunized. If you can provide food, water and shelter for feral cats who needs a safe, secure outdoor home, please contact us. Sassafras Jones and Boobie Miles
Sassafras (calico) and Boobie (black) are 5-year-old siblings who were rescued from the streets as young bottle kittens and are now in need of a new home together. They have huge personalities and are wonderful companions. They get along great together (do argue occasionally, as siblings do) and have never met other cats or dogs. They greet you at the door when you come home, and are always interested in what you are doing. They are spayed/neutered, healthy and up to date on vaccines. Sasha
Sasha is a sweet and loving 9-year-old spayed female looking for a new home. She is a healthy girl and is up to date on her vaccinations. Sasha has wonderful litter box habits and gets along well with dogs and with house guests. She comes when called and loves to snuggle! She's a talker and loves to chat with you and purr with happiness. She is mostly indoors but does like to go outside occasionally to enjoy the sunshine. She does not roam or hunt. Trout is a friendly 7-year-old in need of a loving home. He's a big, handsome guy who likes to spend 80% of his time cuddling, 15% chasing string toys and 5% eating kitty treats! Trout is a confident cat who adapts quickly to new places and enjoys meeting new people. He loves sleeping by your side at night. He's not fond of other cats, but is fine with respectful dogs. Trout is neutered, up to date on vaccines and healthy other than needing to take medication twice a day to control epilepsy. He is very easy to pill and the medication only costs about $5 per month. Charlie and Riley are handsome 14-month-old brothers looking for a loving home. Their guardian had to downsize and was forced to find a place that does not allow animals. Hope is a sweet and affectionate 12-year-old tortoiseshell kitty looking for a loving home. Her elderly guardian recently had to go into a facility that does not allow pets. Hope is spayed and up to date on vaccinations. She likes people and is a wonderful lap cat. She has lived with other cats and is fine with dogs. Lincoln is a wonderful 10-year-old Maine Coon Mix with a handsome orange and white coat and a big fluffy tail. He lost his home when his guardian had to go into a nursing home. He's a very friendly boy who loves people. He is neutered and was adopted from the SPCA three years ago. He is in excellent health and is a champion lap cat. Jack and Jill are 7-month-old siblings who were dumped at a Foster's Freeze. Thankfully a kind citizen witnessed the incident and put the kitty family in her car and offered to foster them while they looked for a permanent home. Athena is a gorgeous 1-year-old spayed female longhaired black cat who was rescued by Redwings Horse Sanctuary along with some abandoned horses in the area. She is a very sweet cat who enjoys hanging out in the office and getting lots of attention. Unfortunately Athena developed an allergy to something outdoors, and she gets very itchy and uncomfortable in her current environment. Shala
The word Shala means "beautiful eyes" in Afghani. Shala is a 6-year-old spayed female longhaired tortoiseshell cat looking for a loving home where she can be a single cat. She is a very sweet and social girl and loves to be petted. She enjoys being an indoor/outdoor cat in a safe environment and is an amazing hunter. She is an "alpha" cat and will do best without other cats nearby. (She has been known to bully neighboring cats.) Shala is not an AFRP cat. Ginger and Spice
Ginger and Spice are beautiful 3-year-old sisters who lost their home when their owner moved to Canada and could not take them along. They are healthy, spayed and up to date on vaccines. They are good with children and have lived with a three-year-old toddler. They also do fine with other friendly cats, but have had no exposure to dogs. Jasper
Jasper is a gorgeous 17-year-old deaf Siamese cat who is otherwise completely healthy. He's an indoor-only boy who spends most of the day napping and dreaming about the good old days. He enjoys being a lap cat and is a very sweet boy who has lived with the same family his whole life. They are moving to the east coast and feel the move would be too hard on him. Katherine
Katherine is a 3-year-old grey and white spayed female Manx in need of a loving home. Katherine was a victim of a foreclosed home in San Juan Bautista, whose former owner chose to abandon her, rather than keep her. Lucky for Katherine a neighbor spotted her as she hunted for mice in the fields close by. Katherine fended for herself for about two months. Now she is safe, and received a clean bill of health from the vet, all tests negative, updated her vaccinations, de-wormed and microchipped. She is a very sweet and loving cat, all she wants now is a home of her own, safe indoors for Christmas. Katherine is not an AFRP cat. Sweetie Pie
Sweetie Pie is a senior neutered male grey tabby who is in need of a loving home. He loves to be petted and will lay there for hours as you gently stroke his fur. Sadly, he was dumped at a feral feeding station in Hollister. Luckily for Sweetie Pie, he was spotted and was taken to the vet for treatment. Skippy
Skippy is a 14 year old male Snowshoe Siamese. He is a little shy at first, but once he knows you he loves to be a lap cat. Skippy grew up with a dog so could probably live with a dog who respects cats. Skippy's elderly guardian has Alzheimer's and is in a care facility. A family friend took over caring for Skippy 4 years ago, but now she is also elderly and broke her hip and his having trouble caring for Skippy as well. Skippy is not an AFRP cat. Flower
Flower is an 18-month-old dilute tortoiseshell. She was a stray who turned up on the doorstep of a senior citizen. He thought Flower was just pudgy, until one day he saw the six kittens. He and his daughter brought them all inside to safety, had them all checked out by a vet, who prounced them healthy. Then ACGSRescue was contacted. Now the whole family is in a wonderful foster home in Hollister. The kittens get lots of cuddles and kisses from children and the foster Mum. Flower is a very social cat.
