Adopters are encouraged to take their new AFRP cat to one of our participating vets for a free wellness check (see list of participating vets).

Smudge
sponsor me

Smudge is a super-sweet 10-year-old white cat looking for his forever home. He's been bounced around a bit in his lifetime, and is hoping his next home is for keeps. Smudge recently returned to our care when his owner could not afford to take care of his medical expenses. He had a mouthful of infected teeth, and could barely eat because he was in so much pain. His teeth have now been extracted, and Smudge feels like a new cat. He's an affectionate boy who loves to be petted and enjoys snuggling on your lap. He gets along fine with dogs and kids. Due to his light coat, Smudge needs an indoor-only home. Meet him at the Petsmart Adoption site in Sand City.

Sakura
sponsor me

Sakura is a gorgeous longhaired Lynx Point Siamese mix with blue eyes and a super soft coat in shades of brown and cream. This regal-looking gentleman is about nine years old, but you wouldn't know he's a senior by looking at him. He is in great condition and is fit and healthy. Sakura came to us from the Salinas Shelter after his family moved and could not bring him along. He is good with kids and other animals, and would be extremely grateful to have a second chance at having a loving home. He's an affectionate and gentle cat with perfect manners. Meet him at the AFRP Adoption Center, 560 Lighthouse Ave in Pacific Grove.

Lovely
sponsor me

Lovely is a beautiful 4-year-old gray tabby with unusual blue eyes. Typically, blue eyes only occur in Siamese (pointed) cats, white cats, or occasionally in cats with lots of white markings, like Lovely. This special girl came to us when her owner had to move away and could not bring Lovely along. She is a super sweet kitty who loves to keep you company and will snuggle up with you on the sofa while you read or watch television. She likes being stroked and is always eager to play a game of "chase the feather toy!" Lovely is in good health but did test positive for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). She'll need to be an indoor kitty. FIV can only be transmitted to another cat by a deep bite wound, and is not transmissible to humans. Cats with FIV can live long, healthy lives. Read more about FIV. Let us know if you'd like to meet Lovely.

Oscar
sponsor me

Oscar can be a bit of a grouch, but who can blame him? He really would rather be in a home of his own instead of in a cage surrounded by other cats he doesn't know. Oscar is a very handsome 2-year-old Seal Point Siamese who can be very charming when he's in his element. When he was in foster care, he was a big sweetie, and loved to be petted and scratched behind the ears. He wants to be somebody's one-and-only pet, and gets a bit grumpy when there are other cats or dogs around. Oscar doesn't always show his best self at the adoption center, so his adopter will have to take a leap of faith that he'll transform into a really nice boy once he's in a quiet, loving home of his own! Meet Oscar at the Posh Pets adoption site, 160 Fountain Ave in Pacific Grove.

Molly
sponsor me

Molly is a beautiful 3-year-old longhaired Manx with a cute little stub of a tail and a thick, soft coat. She is absolutely adorable and will rub up against your leg to ask for petting. Molly came to us when her family could no longer keep her. She did not get along with their other cats. Molly is now our office cat, as she prefers the company of humans to the company of other cats. She'll need to always be a single cat. She seems very tolerant of dogs that are respectful of her. Molly came to us declawed and also with her canine teeth filed down--we're assuming to make it impossible for her to bite anyone. Little Molly is pretty much defenseless now and needs a safe, indoor-only home. Meet Molly at the AFRP Office, 560 Lighthouse Ave in Pacific Grove. Read more about Molly.

Miss Kitty
sponsor me

Miss Kitty is a gorgeous 10-year-old medium-longhaired tabby with white markings. This green-eyed girl not only has dark eyeliner around her eyes, she has it around her nose too! Miss Kitty was tearfully surrendered when her owner had to move to an apartment that did not allow cats. Her owner had adopted her from a bay area rescue group as an injured kitten, after hearing that she was a victim of cruel children with firecrackers. Miss Kitty would do best in a fairly calm and quiet household. She has lived with a well-behaved dog. Meet this special cat at the Posh Pets adoption site, 160 Fountain Ave in Pacific Grove.

Portia
sponsor me

Portia is an affectionate and playful 2-year-old tortoiseshell looking for her forever friend. She was adopted from AFRP as a 12-week-old kitten, and recently returned to us when her owner had to move to housing that did not allow cats. This sweet girl loves to chase feather toys and will rev up her purr motor to thank you for chin-scratches and head-rubs. She'd love to go home with you and curl up at the foot of your bed to keep you company at night. Meet Portia at the Petsmart adoption site in Sand City.

Emily
sponsor me

Emily is a beautiful 4-year-old longhaired gray and white kitty with a super-soft coat. Emily had been adopted from AFRP as a 10-week-old kitten, and recently returned to us when her beloved owner passed away. Emily is still a bit unsure about being away from home, and responds best to quiet voices and gentle petting. She would be a good match for an adult adopter looking for a quiet, well-behaved indoor feline friend, and would appreciate someone with the patience to allow Emily to adjust to her new home at her own pace. Meet this sweet girl at the Posh Pets adoption site, 160 Fountain Ave in Pacific Grove.

Peep
Peep is a beautiful medium-longhaired 10-month-old tortoiseshell with white markings. She has a unique kinked tail that is a fashionable 3/4 length--we're not sure if she was born that way or was in some sort of accident when she was a kitten. Peep came to us from the Salinas Shelter after coming in as a stray. She is a super-playful, sweet and affectionate little cat who gets along great with other cats and loves everyone she meets. Meet Peep at the Sand City Petsmart adoption location.
Spencer
sponsor me

Spencer is a super-cuddly 12-week-old kitten with a long buff coat. He's an easygoing, mellow guy who loves everyone and gets along great with other cats of all ages. Phoebe and Domino can be adopted separately or can be adopted together for one adoption fee. Meet them at the AFRP Adoption Center, 560 Lighthouse Ave in Pacific Grove.

Rudolph
sponsor me

Rudolph is a sweet and gentle 9-month-old buff tabby kitten who had been found on the side of the road in December-- hit by a car and nearly frozen to death. Thankfully, Rudolph has made a wonderful recovery. His purr motor starts up the moment you pet him, and he loves to interact with people. He's one of those rare cats that will actually fetch a small ball and drop it back in your lap for you to toss again! He is a gentle cat and is very easy to handle. He gets along fine with other cats and dogs. Rudolph has a condition called megacolon and is doing great eating a grain-free diet. Rudolph is currently in foster care in Pacific Grove. If you are interested in adopting him, please fill out an online adoption application.

Samantha
sponsor me

Samantha is a sweet and gentle 10-year-old Blue Point Siamese who lost her home when her family had to move away and could not bring her along. Samantha has a great personality and knows her name, comes when called, and has perfect house manners. She has always been an indoor-only cat and is happy to sleep under the covers with you at night. Samantha loves attention and enjoys being petted and brushed. She has a beautiful coat and expressive blue eyes. Samantha seems to get along fine with other cats, dogs and children. She would be very grateful for a second chance with a new family. Meet Samantha at the Posh Pets adoption site, 160 Fountain Ave in Pacific Grove.

Baby Boy
sponsor me

Baby Boy is a friendly and affectionate 15-year-old tuxedo cat with medium-long fur. He and his buddies Bear and Mama Cat lost their home when their elderly owner passed away and no friends or family members could care for them. Baby Boy recently had his teeth cleaned and is ready to spend his golden years with someone who loves the gentle charms of senior cats. This sweet old guy wants nothing more than a warm lap and to know someone cares about him. Meet Baby Boy at the Posh Pets adoption site, 160 Fountain Ave in Pacific Grove.

Mama Cat
sponsor me

Mama Cat is a 13-year-old black kitty who will follow you around hoping to be picked up and cuddled. She and her buddies Bear and Baby Boy lost their home when their elderly owner passed away. Mama Cat recently had her teeth cleaned, and was treated for an abscess on her cheek. She's feeling much better and though she still looks a bit rough around the edges, we think her coat will improve now that she's on a good quality diet. She does have a patch of hairless skin above her right eye that the vet thinks will always look that way. Mama is just as sweet as can be and would truly appreciate a second chance. Meet her at the Posh Pets adoption site, 160 Fountain Ave in Pacific Grove.

Bear
sponsor me

Bear may have a fierce name, but he's just a big pussycat! Bear is a 14-year-old longhaired black cat who came to us with his buddies Baby Boy and Mama Cat when their owner passed away. He was in pretty rough shape when he arrived, badly in need of some dental work. One of his canine teeth was only hanging on by a thread! Now that Bear has been to the vet and had his teeth cleaned and repaired, he feels great. He comes right up to the front of his enclosure to ask for petting and head-rubs. Bear is a super friendly, nice cat and he gets along great with other felines. He sure would love a second chance to spend his golden years in a loving home. Meet Bear at the Posh Pets adoption site, 160 Fountain Ave in Pacific Grove.

Pearl
sponsor me

Pearl is a 1 1/2 year-old white cat who came to us from the San Jose Shelter with a litter of kittens. She has beautiful soft and silky white fur and a sweet face that matches her sweet personality. Pearl's kittens have all been adopted, and she's hoping her good looks and wonderful temperament will help her find her forever home very soon. Due to her light coat, Pearl needs an indoor-only home. She would do best as a single cat in the home because she likes to be the top dawg! Meet Pearl at the Santa Cruz Petsmart adoption site, 490 River Street in Santa Cruz.

Iris
sponsor me

Iris is a sweet 5-month-old dilute calico with a soft, medium-long coat. She was one of several kittens that were rescued from a hoarding situation and has been in foster care for the past few months. Iris' right eye looks darker than the right because she had a corneal ulcer. Fortunately the ulcer healed with medication and she did not need to have her eye removed. She has a small visible scar on the eye, but she still has vision in the eye. Iris gets along great with other cats and enjoys being stroked and petted. She's a gentle, playful kitten looking for a second chance. Meet her at the AFRP Adoption Center, 560 Lighthouse Ave in Pacific Grove.

Peaches
sponsor me

Peaches is a beautiful 4-year-old longhaired orange tabby with big green eyes and a sweet and gentle personality. She came to us from the Salinas Animal Shelter after being surrendered when her owners moved away. Despite being a favorite of the shelter staff and volunteers, Peaches was overlooked by adopters and her time at the shelter was running out. Thankfully, Peaches is now safely in foster care while she awaits her forever family. She is a total love bug and will hop onto your lap for petting and attention. She loves to open cupboards to find a cozy napping spot, and currently favors the bathroom towel cupboard in her foster home! Peaches would do fine with kids ages 5 and up. Let us know if you are interested in meeting this sweet kitty.

Leilani
sponsor me

Leilani is a super sweet 1-year-old calico who came to us from the King City shelter after coming in as an abandoned stray. Her name means "heavenly flower" in Hawaiian, and this pretty girl truly is a furry angel. Despite all the changes she's endured in her young life, Leilani remains calm, serene and easy to handle. She enjoys being held, and appreciates having her head rubbed and her back stroked. She gets along fine with other nice kitties and is not aggressive in any way. Meet Leilani at the Petco adoption site at Del Monte Shopping Center in Monterey.

Shiva
Shiva is a slender, elegant 1-year-old black cat who came to us as a young mother with a litter of kittens. Not much bigger than a kitten herself, Shiva is an affectionate, playful young lady who is happy to amuse herself by batting toy mice around the room, and is equally content to drape herself across your lap for some petting and stroking. "Shiva" is the Sanskrit word for "kind and gracious," and this petite little cat truly is a well-mannered and agreeable feline. She is done growing and doesn't weigh more than 6 pounds. Meet Shiva at the Petco adoption site at Del Monte Shopping Center in Monterey.
Trixie
sponsor me

Trixie is a super sweet and friendly 3-month-old calico with beautiful markings. She and her sister Pixie, also on web, were rescued as young kittens and grew up in foster care with other cats, kids and dogs. They are very well socialized and will adapt easily to most any household. Sadly, both kittens had bad eye infections at some point in their young lives, and as a result their left eyes are somewhat scarred and clouded. We think they have some vision in the eye, but it is probably somewhat diminished. They would be safest in an indoor-only home. Trixie and Pixie can be adopted separately, or together for one adoption fee. Let us know if you'd like to meet Trixie.

Allie tested positive for FIV, but she's hoping that won't stop you from offering her a home. She's a beautiful 2-year-old brown tabby with big green eyes. Allie came to us from the Salinas Animal Services after coming in as a stray. She has a fantastic temperament and is very serene, affectionate and intelligent. Cats with FIV can lead long healthy lives, but do need to be indoor-only pets. They can live as single cats, with other FIV+ cats, or with compatible, non-aggressive felines. Read more about FIV. Postie is a sweet pastel tortoiseshell and is about one year old. She had given birth to kittens behind a post office, and a kind postal worker contacted AFRP for help. Thankfully a foster family was found for Postie and she has completely healed from her injuries. She was a good mama to her kittens, and has nice playful energy but can also entertain herself if you work during the day. She does not like other cats but does fine with dogs. Postie is currently in foster care. For more information, please fill out an online adoption application.

Mr. Tabby Tom

Eloise
sponsor me

Eloise is a very sweet 1-year-old Maine Coon mix who has had some tough luck. While in surgery to correct an abdominal hernia, she suffered some complications due to a bad reaction to the anesthesia. Her vet said it's a miracle that she survived. As a result she has very little vision and may only see shadows. She also has some mild neurological deficits including head tremors and impaired balance. Nonetheless, she is very easygoing and is adapting to her new challenges. She likes to stay safely on the floor and would do best in a single-level home. She can track noisy toys and enjoys playing. She could live with other friendly cats or dogs, and would do best in a fairly calm, safe indoor-only home. Read more about Eloise. Let us know if you would like to meet her.

Bliss
sponsor me

Bliss is a super-sweet 8-year-old Russian Blue kitty who loves to be petted and rubs herself all over you to encourage you to keep going! Bliss is doing great now, but her story was not always so happy. When she arrived at the shelter, her teeth and gums were so infected, green pus was dripping from her mouth. She was emaciated from not being able to eat. Most of her teeth needed to be pulled, and Bliss is now pain-free. She has gained weight and her coat is soft and shiny. All her story needs now is the "happily ever after" ending that comes with having a home of her own. Meet Bliss at the Posh Pets adoption site, 160 Fountain Ave in Pacific Grove.

The staff at the vet clinic loved Mama so much, she was allowed to be their office cat. But now she's ready for her forever home, and would love to meet you! Mama needs to be an indoor-only cat, and would prefer a home with no dogs. She tolerates older children and other respectful cats. She loves attention and is very affectionate. She has a very compact build, and promises to keep your home very energy efficient by keeping your lap nice and warm! Prius is a bit shy, and though she isn't the type to rub against her cage to catch your attention, she is still happy when visitors stop by to rub her head and tell her what a pretty girl she is. Meet Amber at the PetsMart adoption location in Sand City.

Fanny
Fanny is a lovely 10-month-old orange tabby who came to us from the San Martin Shelter with her brother Chapman, also on the web. Fanny is a bit more bold than her brother, and loves to venture from her kitty condo to the large cat enclosure, where she can run, climb, chase and frolic! She is quite athletic and it is fun to watch her leap and pounce. Fanny is a very sweet girl, but is still a bit shy and would benefit from an adopter that can give her lots of love and attention. Once this girl trusts you, she'll be your friend for life! She gets along great with other cats. Meet Fanny at the AFRP Adoption Center, 560 Lighthouse Ave in Pacific Grove.

Here's his dilemma . . . he wants attention, but at the same time he just can't bring himself to be brave enough to ask! He'll come to the front of his kitty condo for a quick scratch on the head, but then he makes a quick retreat when you ask for more love. He is not mean or aggressive in the least, he just needs a little time to get to know and trust you. Chapman gets along great with other cats, and is looking for a patient adopter who can continue to work with him. This sweet little guy will be worth the wait! Meet Chapman at the AFRP Adoption Center, 560 Lighthouse Ave in Pacific Grove.
Tucker
sponsor me

Tucker is a 5-month-old flame point Siamese mix with gorgeous blue eyes. He's a sweet, gentle boy who gets along great with other cats. He has excellent house kitty manners. Tucker always allows the younger kittens in foster care to go ahead of him for everything. He is so polite! He loves to be close to his person and has a very playful spirit. He would do well with another kitty friend. Tucker's right ear is tipped because he came in as a feral kitten. Instead of being released to his colony, his foster family worked to socialize him so that he could become someone's special lap cat. If you are interested in Tucker, please fill out an online adoption application.

Outdoor Cats
Do you have a ranch, barn, greenhouse, workshop or studio that could be a safe haven for a feral cat or two? We often have a few cats in our care who have lived their whole lives outdoors, and are not comfortable in our adoption center. They will have already been spayed/neutered, and immunized. If you can provide food, water and shelter for feral cats who needs a safe, secure outdoor home, please contact us. We recommend a good cat fencing system that can be used for outdoor cats or for your indoor cats who want a safe outdoor adventure. Read more about cat enclosures.
